🙌 Fantastic to see @LordChrisHolmes highlight the need to update the Computer Misuse Act in the House of Lords today through his amendments to the Data (Use and Access) Bill! While the amendment didn't pass, we're very grateful to Lord Holmes for his raising this vital issue!
💬 It's great to see the Government hosting global talks on tackling global cyber threats and boosting cyber skills this week, as well as launching a new regional skills programme to provide cyber training across England and Northern Ireland.

🔄 By updating the Act to include a 'statutory defence', qualified cyber professionals would be able to defend themselves from prosecution for simply doing their jobs to protect UK cyber space.

We are very grateful to @mpmwilko for calling for an update to the outdated #ComputerMisuseAct to ensure our #cybersecurity professionals can work as effectively as possible to defend our country from rising cyber threats. #UpdateCMA
We are very grateful to Lord @TimClementJone1 for mentioning the CyberUp Campaign and calling for an update to the #ComputerMisuseAct1990 during the #KingsSpeech debate on #EconomicGrowth, #Infrastructure and #Employment in the House of Lords.
An update to the CMA to include a #StatutoryDefence will not only ensure our #cybersecurity professionals can do their jobs more effectively to protect our critical national infrastructure, it will also unleash the full growth potential of our leading cybersecurity sector.
Our research shows that updating the CMA in this way would provide a potential annual revenue boost to the sector of £2.4 billion, as well as creating up to 9,100 additional jobs.

The introduction of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill in today's King's Speech will be key to keeping the UK safe from rising cyberattacks. With cybercrime increasing by nearly a third last year, it is heartening to see the Government prioritise updates to our cyber laws.
Updating the Act will enable the UK's cyber professionals to better protect the UK online, safeguarding the digital economy and unlocking the full growth potential of our cyber security industry.

Great to see @profsecmag covering our quote in response to the Bill: professionalsecurity.co.uk/p…
Following the launch of the Labour Party Manifesto last week, we welcome Labour's recognition of the growing cyber threat to the UK and the fact they have outlined a plan to conduct a Strategic Defence Review in their first year in government, if elected.
Given the crippling real-world impact of recent #cyberattacks on our public services and businesses, it is absolutely essential that all UK policymakers recognise the importance of improving our nation’s #CyberResilience.
We appeal to the next government to implement vital reforms on #cybersecurity, including #CMAReform, to better protect the country from these growing threats.
