Protecting refugees & asylum seekers also requires joint action against those seeking to exploit them.

We believe in a United Nations that protects the principles of its Charter and has the capacity to act upon them.
We believe in a multilateral system in which every state has both rights and responsibilities. And we believe that small-sized states have a particular role to play: Not on the margins of international affairs but as active participants in shaping our common future.
For the Republic of Cyprus, that means defending the principles on which we depend, contributing to the institutions in which we believe, building partnerships for the common good, taking initiatives to create useful synergies, and acting responsibly where we can affect change.

Our position is clear: in an era of polycrises, isolation is the antithesis of responsibility and a luxury we cannot afford.

🇨🇾 Σήμερα, από το εμβληματικό βήμα της 81ης Γενικής Συνέλευσης των Ηνωμένων Εθνών 🇺🇳, ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας @Christodulides μεταφέρει τη φωνή της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο.
🌍 Στον χώρο όπου ο κόσμος δεσμεύτηκε ότι η ισχύς δεν μπορεί να υπερισχύει του δικαίου, η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία υπενθυμίζει μια θεμελιώδη αλήθεια: το Διεθνές Δίκαιο, η κυριαρχία και η εδαφική ακεραιότητα δεν μπορούν να εφαρμόζονται επιλεκτικά.
Σε μια εποχή αβεβαιότητας και διαδοχικών κρίσεων, η Κύπρος υπερασπίζεται την πολυμέρεια και τη συνεργασία ως τον δρόμο για ειρήνη, ασφάλεια και σταθερότητα. Έχει αποδείξει στην πράξη ότι μπορεί να διαδραματίζει ουσιαστικό ρόλο σε μια περιοχή γεμάτη προκλήσεις, φέρνοντας χώρες και εταίρους πιο κοντά, συμβάλλοντας στη διαχείριση κρίσεων και μετατρέποντας τη γεωγραφική της θέση σε δύναμη συνεργασίας.

🇨🇾🇺🇳 66 years ago today, the Republic of Cyprus took its place among the community of nations, joining the United Nations following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 1489 (XV).
As the Cypriot delegation entered the General Assembly Hall for the first time, a new chapter began: Cyprus assumed its place as a sovereign Member State and embraced the multilateral system at the heart of the United Nations.
Six decades on, Cyprus continues to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, international law and multilateralism, and remains committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes.
