The Power of Compound Interest in a Fixed Deposit A Fixed Deposit is straightforward. You put in a lump sum, choose how long you want to keep it, and earn interest on it. But there is a difference between simply earning interest and earning interest on the interest you have already earned. That is what compound interest does. In a cumulative Fixed Deposit, the interest earned during the tenure is added back to the deposit. So, when interest is calculated for the next period, it is calculated on the original amount as well as the interest accumulated so far. It may sound like a small difference. Over time, however, those small additions can add up. What is Compound Interest in a Fixed Deposit? Compound interest means that interest is calculated not only on the original principal but also on the interest accumulated during earlier periods. In a Fixed Deposit, this happens when the interest earned is reinvested into the deposit instead of being paid out during the tenure. As the accumulated interest becomes part of the principal, the amount on which the next interest calculation is made increases. How does Compound Interest Work in a Fixed Deposit? The standard formula is: A = P (1 + r/n)ⁿᵗ Here, P is the principal, r is the annual interest rate, n is the number of compounding periods in a year and t is the tenure. The illustration above uses the standard compound-interest formula. The actual maturity amount of a Fixed Deposit depends on the applicable terms and the Bank's calculation methodology. What is CKYC (Central KYC)? You open a bank account, complete your KYC and move on. A while later, you apply for another financial product or service and come across the familiar request for furnishing KYC details yet again. You already have your documents, your details have been verified, and you may wonder.. “Why do I need to share the same information again?” This is where CKYC, or Central KYC, comes in. It brings KYC records into a centralized system, making it possible for participating financial institutions to retrieve an existing KYC record when applicable. But what exactly is CKYC, how does it work, and what are the documents required for CKYC? Let’s understand it step by step. What is KYC? KYC stands for Know Your Customer. It is the process through which a bank or other regulated financial institution establishes and verifies a customer's identity and address. When you open a Savings Account, Current Account or establish another financial relationship, you may be asked to provide applicable identity and address information. What is CKYC? CKYC stands for Central KYC. It refers to the centralised system through which KYC document records are maintained in the Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCR). The registry is operated by the Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India (CERSAI). Once a customer's KYC record is registered, a unique 14-digit KYC Identifier is generated. This is commonly called the CKYC Number. This identifier provides a common reference to your central KYC record. In simple terms: KYC is the process. CKYC is the centralised record system. The CKYC Number identifies your record. Where applicable, a participating financial institution can use the CKYC Identifier to retrieve your existing KYC record post seeking explicit consent from you, subject to the relevant requirements. Why FDs Remain a Stable and Reliable Option During Market Volatility? There is something about market volatility that changes the way people think about money. During periods when headlines keep talking about rising or falling markets, many people naturally begin looking at their finances a little more closely. Big decisions often take a back seat, while dependable financial choices start getting more attention. It is not about chasing every opportunity. It is about feeling comfortable with where your money is placed. That is one of the reasons FD has remained relevant for decades. Despite changing market conditions and the growing number of financial products available today, Fixed Deposits continue to hold their place in many households. Parents recommend them to their children. Grandparents have relied on them for years. Young professionals are beginning to include them in their savings plans too. Trends may change, but some financial habits continue because they simply are reliable. Why Do Investors Value the Predictability of Fixed Deposits? One reason is clarity. People appreciate knowing exactly what they are signing up for. Once the deposit amount and tenure are chosen, everything feels straightforward. There is no need to keep checking market movements every day or wondering how changing prices might affect the deposit. That sense of predictability is something many people value, especially when markets appear less certain. Know More: dcb.bank.in/blog-details/why…
