I see hunting blinds all over the place with my job. Some hastily built shacks. A few condominium ones too.
Lots of apple and corn piles have appeared in the past 2 weeks.
Cheers to a safe, productive and friendly hunt next week. I’ll try not to disrupt your time in the blind too badly.

Fusarium stalk rot causes shredded pith that may be tan to light pink. Brown streaks may be observed on the lower internodes.
The fungi overwinter in corn residue, other dead plant residue, and in corn seed.
Resistance to Fusarium stalk rot is available. Rotation and tillage will reduce inoculum.

Some ugly stalk rots starting to show up in areas of Indiana. Something to watch out for this fall. Best thing to do is prioritize the fields that have it and get the corn out of the field asap.

Winter canola doing its thing. 3 leaf stage. Pretty good conditions since seeding at the end of Aug. No annual weeds-Rival does a great job making a clean stand. Time to spray out the vol wheat. A good rule of thumb 21 days after seeding is time to spray. Seedling canola is not very competitive. Generally crushers don’t like canola contaminated with wheat. @OntCanolaGrower

Here’s a video of the “year zero” edible bean plot planted in grey county this year on our farm. We are trying to bring accurate yield/maturity data to farmers in the more northern edible bean growing areas. Please reach out with questions!

Originally I was only going to do the front wheels but they went so well I did the rears as well, super happy how they turned out. Happy to share dimensions, they can be built for about $450 Canadian including the pipe bender tool
2 mornings at 7 degrees C in mid July at early tassel. 😬 Still lagging behind last yrs chu and 5 yr “normal”.
It’s very critical in the Highlands to have corn tassel in July to have a decent chance at good grain finish. On target for half the corn acres tasselled in July. Look ahead at drying costs 👀. #nervous #memoriesoflastyear
