The compression of magnetic tape automatically boosts two frequency ranges but it does it in an extremely beautiful way rather than applying it in post on purpose digitally.
There’s also an element of the vibrations, frequency and energy of the music warping the tape itself. This is one reason why a lot of Hendrix music sounds electric and other guitarists couldn’t emulate it.
