The team at @a16z are looking to do more deals in Europe.
Everyone knows that @GEVS94 is bullish on the continent.
But now Anish Acharya (@illscience) has also come out in support for European Tech:
“The opportunity for Europe is to embrace what's unique about Europe, and it feels like that's what this generation of really good European [companies] are doing"
"they're unapologetically European and going after markets and opportunities where they have a right to win,”
@a16z recently invested alongside @sarahdrinkwater, @MattEvantic and others in Ethos (@DJ_Mankowitz).
The firm has also invested in Mistral and Revolut.
NICE.

Come Ask James Lo (Co-Founder of Ethos AI) Anything!
This is part of AMA series we're hosting on our subreddit r/ExperiencedFounders.
James raised $22.75M from a16z to solve expert calls with AI where they believe AI will enable human opportunity.
Ethos adds roughly 35,000 new experts to the platform every week and they earn an extra ~£4,500/month on average. The top 10% earn £7,000+/month.
Before Ethos, he co-founded Mana, studied Government at LSE, did strategy consulting at McKinsey, growth/transformation work at SoftBank's Vision Fund, including stints on the WeWork and Arm turnarounds, and a UNICEF connectivity initiative.
Come ask him anything!

This week we hosted @DJ_Mankowitz, cofounder and CTO of Ethos for a discussion on how Ethos has architected the engineering team to be AI-native.
With just 3 developers, the bar is very high for new joiners. Dan is looking for generalists (comfortable across full stack, infra, UX) who are genuinely AI-native. This means AI products like Cursor, Claude Code and Conductor are core to your workflows and you're increasingly become a manager of agents rather than coding.
Ethos has made a number of other conscious decisions to optimise for coding agents: a single monorepo for full context, agent.md files, everything is a tool with Claude SDK, and much more.
We really enjoyed having Dan share his insights with a room of fellow engineers and founders!

Congatulations, James, Dan and Team Ethos! Thank you for the opportunity to be your partners.
Today Ethos announces our $22.75M Series A led by @a16z, with participation from @generalcatalyst, @xtxmarkets, @MattEvantic, and @_CommonMagic.
Ethos turns what you know into recurring income - matching your expertise to expert calls, research, AI training, fractional work, and full-time roles.
35,000 people are joining Ethos every week. People are making $10,000 every month on Ethos.
AI shouldn’t replace you. It should make you irreplaceable.

Today we’re releasing Laguna M.1 and Laguna XS.2, our first public models.
Laguna XS.2 is our first open-weight release, with weights available today on Hugging Face:

A few details on what went into them: large-scale pre-training, data mixture optimization, synthetic data, optimizer efficiency, and async agent RL.

Can we do inference for robotics simply by fine tuning a generative model on the fly? Turns out that with some tricks (cross entropy method) this can be done very quickly!
New work led by @orrkrup , catch him presenting it in person next week at #CoRL2023!
What do you do when your robot world model just doesn't cut it? Fine-tune it, of course!
New paper in #CoRL2023 next week, "Fine-Tuning Generative Models as an Inference Method for Robotic Tasks"

I’m old enough to remember when @LozzaFox got arrested (!) in the UK - where thought crimes are prosecutable - for saying he intended to cut down an emissions spy camera. But this? “We’ll find some Jews and spill their blood!” “We’ll kill that Jewish boy’s dog!” No problem!

Tell me why Hamas-controlled Gaza doesn’t have any water? Maybe it’s because they’re too busy using water pipes to make rockets.

Important to call out and stand against antisemitism at this terrible moment. It’s never acceptable. Proud to sign this commitment to raise awareness and condemn this historic evil. adl.org/workplace-pledge-fig…
Deeply saddened by the terrorist attacks in Israel this weekend and the escalating conflict underway. Google has 2 offices and over 2,000 employees in Israel. It’s unimaginable what they’re experiencing. Our immediate focus since Saturday has been on employee safety. We’ve now made contact with all of our local employees, and will continue supporting them. We’re also working to provide reliable, accurate information to people through our products, as well as sharing the cyber activity that our experts are seeing. We’ll be supporting humanitarian and relief organizations on the ground. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

All you "freedom fighting" supporters, Don't look away.
I urge you to watch this.
Those of you at @Harvard who supported the the massacre in Israel because "they're fighting for their land".
No their not.
They're fighting for an Islamic state in the name of Jihad.
Kidnap women, rape them and burn them is not freedom fighting.
The Hamas Charter explicitly writes that all Israelis must die and Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth in the name of Islamic Jihad.
Not freedom fighters, ISIS-like terrorists.
You want a "Free Palestine?", Free Palestine from Hamas.
Please share this now.

As a Muslim CEO in tech, let me just say this:
Hamas is an evil terrorist organization that needs to be wiped off the face of the Earth.
Murdering innocent civilians (children, babies, families asleep in their homes) goes against every single teaching of the Qur'an.
May they all rot in Hell.
I pray for peace and innocent lives to be spared as Israel completes this task. But complete it, I hope they do.
