Key made 107 starts between 1985-87, picking up the slack when rotation stalwarts like Dave Stieb and Jim Clancy struggled.
#OTD 34 years ago, Jimmy Key allowed just one run in 7-2/3 innings to lead the Blue Jays to a 2-1 win over the Braves in Game 4 of the 1992 WS at SkyDome. Realizing it was likely Key's last start as a Jay, the fans gave him a standing ovation when he was taken out in the eighth.

I have been through Union Station countless times since the 80s. Not once have I not felt safe, regardless of the time of day. The police budget is bloated enough as it is.
More than a quarter of a million people pass through Union Station every day. It should make commuters feel safe, visitors feel welcome, and investors feel like they’ve arrived in a city that has its act together. As Mayor, I’ll put a permanent, visible police presence inside Union Station and raise the standard for safety and cleanliness across our transit system. Toronto can do better. Real change means setting a higher standard. And delivering real results. Join us: bradford26.ca/sign-up

Tomorrow night! I can’t wait to regale you with Dan Howley stories. In the 1920s, baseball was THE game in Toronto, and there was no bigger sporting personality in the city than Howling Dan.
There's still time to sign up for this Wednesday night's SABR Hanlan's Point Chapter autumn meeting on Zoom. At 730pm October 21st, we welcome @DMFox705 to talk about his book "The Howleyites". All baseball fans welcome! Message us for details.

Looked up from my book on the subway today when I noticed author Margaret Atwood sitting next to me. I just *happened* to have copies of my latest book with me, so I presented one to her.

I had originally identified Standing Player 13 as utility infielder Otis Lawry, who was a key Leafs contributor. But I had a nagging doubt, and more research showed he didn’t join the team until mid-May. Back to the photos I went. /3

Andy Harrington is listed as a Pinch Hitter on his Baseball Reference page, because his MLB career lasted one PH AB in 1925. The Tigers sent him to Toronto in 1926, and he played 16 yrs in the minors and never returned. The match isn’t perfect, but I think he’s Standing 13. /4

Fernando Perez makes his Arizona Fall League debut. Perez reached AA last year at just 21, but had his struggles this season, and spent much of the year on the Development List. /1

Not surprisingly, Perez, who didn’t pitch much this year, was rusty in his 1st inning of work. He didn’t miss his spots by much, but he fell behind hitters and his 91-93 4S didn’t give him a lot of margin for error in a 2-run frame. /2

Hall of Famer Jeff Kent’s son hits a leadoff single just under Perez’ glove in the 2nd, and I feel old. A fielder’s choice later, and Perez has hit his pitch limit. /3

Lead off walk and a stolen base for Jake Cook in Arizona. Got a great jump, has swiped five bags already.
