Since then, no update, until today….
@minhdo, COO at Animoca confirmed a few points today:
#1 Animoca "did not take any cash from SOMO or the original fundraise";
#2 it took over the IP "as a favor to a group of VC friends"
#3 the deal was "an asset sale for nominal amounts with zero investor capital attached";
#4 an announcement is coming "shortly".
For the investors who hoped the Animoca take over could be some light at the end of the tunnel to getting a closure on their investment (TGE), it looks highly unlikely.
Favor to a group of VC friends, with zero invest capital attached - is really not a great sign.
Where did the $20M go???
We will publish an announcement shortly but to be clear Animoca did not take any cash from SOMO or the original fundraise. We took over the IP as a favor to a group of VC friends to try to revive it. It was an asset sale for nominal amounts with zero investor capital attached. Animoca has still been working to try to revive SOMO in some form.

Sui dominance is a function of its beta. It has a low free float, 70% locked up in staking and it's earlier stage, and therefore any $ of capital in, or out, leads to outside moves over time.
Meanwhile the density of its network (TVL per active user) remains constant in up and down markets (a sign of network coherence), and higher than most of its peers. It still has a way to go but the sui:native team is shipping the future of finance and the agentic economy rails.
