US President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to a record low of 31%, as Americans blame him for high gasoline prices and signal they are ready to punish Republicans in the November 3 midterm elections, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. ￭ 31% of Americans approve of Trump's job performance, down one point from two weeks ago and the lowest of either of his presidential terms. On the generic ballot, Democrats lead Republicans 47% to 35%, a 12-point advantage, the widest margin this cycle. ￭ 50% of female voters say they will vote Democratic, compared with 32% for Republicans. Men also favor Democrats, but by a smaller margin. ￭ 68% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy, including 37% of Republicans. Voters pick Democrats over Republicans as better stewards of the economy by 40% to 33%. ￭ Trump's popularity has suffered since he launched the aggression on Iran in February. The war triggered a surge in gasoline prices, squeezing household budgets. Gas has hit $4.37 a gallon on average, up more than 40% from a year ago. ￭ Losing control of either legislative wing would complicate Trump's agenda in the final two years of his term. The poll was conducted online among 1,679 US adults, including 1,279 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2-3 points.
