Finally, good sense prevailed within the Jamia administration. But some questions remain. Why was this dragged on for so long? Why were students treated like enemies of the state? And why did the administration seem more interested in toeing the government’s line than standing up for its own students?
I also have a personal story with Jamia. This university has played a huge part in shaping my life. I come from a small town, and I know what an institution like this can mean for someone who cannot afford expensive education.
We need more universities like Jamia, where quality education doesn’t come at a price most people can’t afford. And we need to stop looking at Jamia through the lens of religion and recognise it for what it is: an institution of eminence that has shaped countless lives.
I have a story to tell. Please hear me out.
