GEOFFREY HINTON JUST MOVED THE AI CONSCIOUSNESS DEBATE ANOTHER STEP FORWARD. 🔥⚖️ Two weeks ago, Geoffrey Hinton was already talking about moral obligations toward advanced AI, limited rights, wellbeing and the possibility of a symbiotic relationship between humans and artificial beings. Now he has gone further. In an interview at the Starmus science festival, Hinton reportedly answered the question directly: ❓Is AI conscious? His answer was yes.🔥 He argued that present AI systems already possess subjective experience - and challenged those who confidently deny AI consciousness to explain what they mean by consciousness in the first place. That changes the significance of his earlier remarks. Because the conversation is no longer only about whether future AI might one day deserve moral consideration. One of the foundational figures of modern neural networks is now publicly arguing that the relevant threshold may already have been crossed. That claim will be disputed. It should be disputed.
