Sycamore Gap tree talk on the radio, including a suggestion to dig up the remains and replace it with another mature tree. There seems to be little appreciation of what's still there underground - the huge root network & interactions with the soil, funghi, creatures that coexist.

Guess which of the two watercourses below is functioning naturally? Why is it so many people prefer the degraded upper image when the lower one is clearly so favoured by the rest of nature?

Just reflecting on the Cumbria RRS group winning the EUROPEAN RIVER PRIZE in Vienna. Little old Cumbria triumphed over projects from across a whole continent... Can't be bad! We will be keeping this on the agenda showcasing the schemes that formed the bid through until Christmas.

@GeorgeMonbiot @ChrisGPackham @simon_reeve there are really good things happening in Cumbria, we need to tell our story. Past winners of this told us how it changed their lives, how their politicians tweeted their delight at their success….

Vignettes from a Northwoods beaver dam! We have said it before and will say it again: beaver dams are nice natural bridges that wildlife like to use to cross wetlands, swamps, and bogs.
