Hello, my name's Daley. I'm a co-founder and director at Ludo Studio in Brisbane. You might know me as Thor's puny weak roommate Darryl, and from making Bluey at Ludo, I also created A24's Talk to Me with Danny and Michael Philippou. At Ludo, we also made Robbie Hood for SBS and, more recently, Thou Shalt Not Steal for Stan with Dylan River.
Here's the first teaser poster for Allen, Netflix's first Australian feature film. It's also Ludo's first live-action feature film.
I'd love to talk more about the film here soon, but just quickly - it's about a character who believes the best thing that ever happened to them has already happened.
I know I'm too obsessed with the past. And too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I rewatch movies I loved as a kid, listen to old music and read old books and want to play the same board games I did when I was ten. I'm writing this while l at a graded, boxed Ninja Turtle toy I just got off eBay, sitting above my old HeroQuest and Nightmare board games, next to an unopened, mint-condition packet of Pocahontas SkyBox trading cards VGC.
I spend a lot of time thinking about the past, and one thing in particular that happened to me a long time ago. I think I surround myself with all these things because they're a bit of a Portkey to get back there, while another part is trying very hard to grow up.
We tried to make a film about that that everyone could watch together.
I'd love to talk more about it soon but if you love Cheezels, this is for you.
We made the whole film here on the coasts here in Queensland - even in Coolum. I'm incredibly grateful to Netflix for giving us the opportunity to make it here - and set it here too. We got to work with so many brilliant Australian creatives, in front of and behind the camera, from caters, to transport to costume and make-up and puppeteers to VFX artists and produces and an extraordinary local crew. To create this with them has been one of the best parts of the whole thing.
I'd love to talk more about it and especially the people who brought it to life, here soon.
In the meantime, here's our first teaser poster.
Thanks so much for reading. Sincerely. – at Brisbane, Queensland

'Bluey' Studio Ludo Shoots Live-Action Feature 'Allen' for Netflix variety.com/2025/tv/news/blu…
Happy Birthday Liam!
Love, Daley
Here’s my brother when he had hair.
I don’t think all those nice sayings about time are true.
Time heals all wounds. Time wounds all heels too.
It feels like yesterday.
I think most of my friends here didn’t know him.
You missed out. He was my best friend.
I looked up to him. He was as tall as anything. I was as short as anything.
Mum always said I’d grow. I did. Eventually.
Not as good looking as Liam.
What do I say about him? He never knew this new world.
He got cancer. A death sentence. That’s heavy. Too heavy for a teenager. I never asked how long he was given. He outlived the expectation. He was 26. A law degree. A job. A house .A car. A Lada. It got washed away in a river. He travelled the world. New York. LA. Ireland. Paris. He helped knock down the Berlin Wall. Showed me movies I was way too young to watch. Sent me Ninja Turtle toys from New York. Took me to Japan. Singapore. Then got a dog. Harry. He had a girlfriend, Tania. She's my sister now. He was The Pope for his 21st. I went as the devil. He also had chemotherapy. A bone-marrow transplant. Medications. Operations. Bad news. But I don’t remember him complaining. Ever. Maybe about me. Maybe about Mum worrying. Maybe about Harry. But never about life. Maybe he did? To the doctor? To Mum? But I never heard it.
“I’ve gotta play the cards I’ve been dealt.”
That’s what he told Mum once in hospital.
Before one operation the nurse said, “In again, Liam?”He said, “I enjoyed it so much last time I thought I’d come back.” That’s Steve McQueen. But my brother was real.
He treated me like a best friend. I didn’t feel like a little brother. I was tiny. But I was his friend. He took me to football. The movies. The pub. Singapore. Japan. Tokyo. He made me feel cool. Liam made you feel cool. He was kind. Smart. Hilarious. Just, cool. Very. Very. Cool. I’ve met a few cool people. There’s something special about them. Not better. Just unique. They make you feel special. Liam did that.
My Dad slept at the hospital the last week. Visiting hours didn’t apply.
I’m older than you now, Liam.
I wonder what you’d think of me? Would we still be best friends? Would you like my stuff? Tease me about it? Nothing I’ve done feels worthy of showing to you. But one day.
One day. We’ll all meet again. Don't know where. Don't know when.
What else? Liam was unique. But the saddest thing is that his story isn’t. There's too many families who've lost and lived to tell the tale.
But what for?
Maybe this: Love. Be loved. Don’t be scared. Or be scared. But don’t waste a second. Or do, if you want. Above all, he taught me to be myself. That was Liam. Come as you are.
I loved him. I love him. I miss him.I’m crying.
If you ever need me, just call. I’ll be there.
Liam was a gift.
I'd like to to pass it on.
💚
