It is nice growing flowers for yourself.
It is even nicer growing flowers to be able to give them to other people.
Today these were gifted to a friend.

It is a bit weird going through life knowing that if something terrible were to happen to you or to the people (including children) that you work with, a disconcerting number of people would be pleased.

On Tuesday, Landsec shelved its £1.5bn plan for Lewisham Shopping Centre.
Today, Goldsmiths has walked away from its planned Catford campus: 600+ students, a 10-year lease, millions of council investment.
The Green Mayor @LiamShrivastava promised hope. Where is it for Catford?

In the future, no-one will listen to any actual Jews, any antisemitism experts or any research into the subject.
They will defer entirely to Owen Jones, who has been obsessively trying to define Jewishness for Jews since he was a teenager

Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man who watched a film of Hamas atrocities and complained there wasn't "conclusive" evidence of rape; defended marches on Oct 7; responded to report of antisemitism in our schools with post headlined: "Debunked!"
Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man of enormous courage, integrity and truthfulness. No one should think for a minute that his relentless defence of Palestinian rights and historical truth is easy or comes without heavy personal costs. Throughout the genocide in Gaza, Jones remained a tireless bur rigorous and supremely decent voice. I suspect part of what initially moved him was the strong displeasure in being treated like an idiot by the official propaganda – a noble motive in itself – but there is no question he has been genuinely touched by the images of suffering arriving daily from Gaza. And yet, how does his intellectual fixation on a battle between left and right help us understand the horrors of Gaza, or move us to stop them? My impression is that the opposite has happened. People look at what is happening in Gaza and ask themselves what a person on the right or on the left should think. In many cases this is ideology. In most, simply careerism and group association. Jones shows how limited the perspective really is. How about, like the author himself, asking how a human being should feel? How about returning to the world of facts and feelings rather than our endless Marvel franchise? newstatesman.com/culture/boo…

If a right wing commentator posted a 16-tweet thread trying to dismiss and undermine an official report into any other type of racism, Owen Jones would be the first to call them racist. But when it comes to antisemitism, he is first in line with the 'debunking'. What a hypocrite.

We saw this in the Labour Party when antisemitism was endemic - the belief that politics is controlled by powerful Jewish interests.
Now this is being shared by the Leader of the Green Party.

Zack Polanski only appears to cite antisemitism in two contexts.
There's the antisemitism that happens to him (real, terrible)
And there's the antisemitism that the rest of the community speaks about (apparently deserving of denial, disparagement or conspiracy theories).

What an extraordinary stance by Zack Polanski, appearing to dismiss a major report on antisemitism in schools and using it as an opportunity to attack the Board of Deputies.

Such an odd and disturbing response.
Jews remain the only minority group that are not allowed to define what discrimination against them looks like.
We are consistently told that our concerns should be wrapped up in generic "antiracism", lest we construct a "hierarchy of racism."
It's just silly and overwrought. There is lots of antisemitism. Some of it is outright and obvious to everyone (Jews control the world), some of it is outright but not obvious to everyone (shouting "free Palestine" to random Jews in the street), and some of it is harder to determine, and needs unpicking and sensitive thought (e.g. "Zionism is racism").
The NEU's statement contains neither subtlety nor empathy. Instead, it sidelines our community's very real concerns, and tells us that in fact we have misunderstood our own oppression.
Poor show, but not entirely unsurprising.

I watched a lot of people march against fascism and then a few years later mindlessly scroll tiktok until they believed it's good to harass, demonize, ostracize, beat, and kill their Jewish neighbors. As if the original fascists thought they were the bad guys when they did it.

This is utterly bonkers. How can one person (and presumably one producer) cover such an enormous brief. Education and social affairs are the things that affect millions of normal people. I am not a BBC basher, but how on earth does the corporation think this is public service?
NEW: BBC will no longer have a dedicated education editor as part of proposal that will see 100 jobs go across BBC News.
School leaders call the plan “deeply regrettable” and ask for a rethink.
Education/Social affairs editor jobs being combined.

Lifelong Anti-Racist: Erm, actually, I think we should be legislating so that a 10 year old Jewish boy is bullied and held accountable for the actions of the State of Israel by his classmates.

My most controversial post in last few weeks it seems was me saying I hope we can all agree it's shameful that Jewish children are being bullied in British and Irish schools.
An enormous number of replies from people deeply resentful that any attention is paid to this problem.

The number of leftists dumping on the whole idea of this report should be enough to convince you of just how necessary it is.

Dismissing the school antisemitism report because "most Jewish kids go to faith schools" completely misses the point.
Protection inside a building doesn't stop abuse on the daily commute or the football pitch.
Thousands of Jewish kids attend local comps, where they are grilled on geopolitical conflicts and face targeted Zionist slurs.
Spoke to a teacher the other day who confirmed it’s worse than ever— world maps with Israel on being defaced in classrooms. The denial needs to stop.

this is deeply embarrassing. the review does not say that teachers should ignore children who as them questions about the conflict, rather it stresses that teachers must remain genuinely impartial.
