The ICC is the cornerstone of the international criminal justice system. It prosecutes individuals responsible for the most serious crimes under international law. I have spoken with ICC President Tomoko Akane following the United States’ announced intention to impose sanctions. The six-month period before the measures take effect offers a window for dialogue. The EU has always supported the Court, and the EU has options to ensure that it can continue its vital work. Protecting the ICC remains an EU priority.

Over the past few days, humanitarian facilities in South Kordofan, Sudan, have been looted, and humanitarian workers detained. This is a clear violation of international humanitarian law. Humanitarian workers must be protected, never detained. #NotATarget

Wise words from @UNReliefChief
Sudan does not suffer from lack of analysis, but lack of action. Sudanese people need diplomacy, water and medicine. Yet world sends drones, weapons and mercenaries in struggle for power, gold and pride. My Security Council statement: bit.ly/4wL7MQI

In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s Kordofan and Blue Nile regions, @eu_echo coordinated 5 Humanitarian Air Bridge flights. The 5th flight has now landed in Port Sudan, carrying medical cargo from EU stocks to support emergency healthcare on the ground.

ICC is the cornerstone of international justice. It holds perpetrators of the gravest crimes accountable. It gives victims back their dignity. No intimidation. No interference. From anyone. This is how we prevent tomorrow's atrocities and build lasting peace. EU27 statement👇

#Sudan: The significant RSF build-up around El Obeid city in Kordofan suggests an imminent offensive & human rights disaster. It must be halted. There must be no repeat of the preventable atrocities we documented in El Fasher and Zamzam IDP camp in North Darfur last year. ohchr.org/en/press-releases/…

Same goes for some groups on the Horn of Africa
I can understand why Sahelian governments refer to jihadists and other armed groups as "terrorists" but that's no reason for analysts to use the term. It reflects a bankrupt "natsec" ideology, has no analytical value, and obscures what these groups are and how they operate.

Sudan remains high on EU’s political agenda. At last week’s Berlin Conference, €1.5 billion was pledged for Sudan & the region, over half from Team Europe. Sudan needs a ceasefire, the protection of civilians, an arms embargo & ultimately peace with accountability.

Days after the Al-Daein Hospital attack in East Darfur, strikes hit Al-Jabalain Hospital in White Nile. Attacks on healthcare are war crimes. Perpetrators will face international justice, no matter how long it takes.

In South #Sudan, dozens of civilians have been slaughtered in Abiemnom as unidentified gunmen launched an assault in the north of the country over the weekend. I call for urgent de-escalation & protection of civilians. International humanitarian law must be upheld.

Similar atrocities risk happening in other regions.
UN mission finds the RSF showed genocidal intent in El Fasher, with ethnic massacres & sexual violence. Similar atrocities risk happening in other regions. As stated in the statement signed by 31 Ministers & myself, all parties must protect civilians, including humanitarians.

RELEASE: UN report finds RSF committed genocide in El Fasher. This is a step toward justice, but we all must be accountable for the world’s collective failure to stop a crime that was accurately predicted years ago. No one can say they didn’t know. 🛰️ @Vantortech, @AirbusDS

The deadly attack by the Rapid Support Forces on a health centre in Kadugli, #Sudan is a clear violation of international humanitarian law. Civilians, including children, reportedly lost their life. The EU will not stay silent in the face of such atrocities against civilians.

The hundreds of notices of missing people since the takeover of El Fasher are appalling. A largely overlooked machinery of disappearance has taken hold in the post-takeover. Thousands remain unaccounted for. In parallel, a new detention apparatus is operating.
