Oh my gosh, there are so many people I wish to thank for this amazing accomplishment I have achieved…. 🥲
“As soon as you begin to know God’s word, the devil will afflict you. . . . This suffering will teach you how right, true, sweet, lovely, mighty, and comforting God’s word is.” - Martin Luther
Typical Luther…buying into the ‘loser theology’ of 21st century evangelicalism.
Five important Latin phrases appear throughout Martin Luther’s writings. This Reformation Day, consider these five which serve as a good summary of his life and chief theological emphases.

Just to satisfy all the parents in my neighborhood, I should be David Pumpkins for Halloween some year.
Ten years ago this month, three sleep-deprived SNL writers accidentally created one of the most beloved Halloween characters in television history.
And apparently, Tom Hanks thought the whole thing was ridiculous.
The story behind David S. Pumpkins is almost as funny as the sketch itself.
In October 2016, SNL writers Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan, and Streeter Seidell were working late into the night on a Halloween sketch about a haunted elevator.
The premise was simple. Every floor would reveal something terrifying.
But around 4 or 5 in the morning, someone suggested a character named David Pumpkins. Moynihan added the middle initial. Nobody knew what the S stood for. Nobody knew who David Pumpkins was supposed to be.
And that was basically the entire joke.
They found a cheap pumpkin-covered suit, gave him two dancing skeletons, and decided this completely ordinary-looking middle-aged man would act like he was a legendary Halloween character everyone should recognize.
Tom Hanks reportedly thought the sketch was so bizarre that he suggested saving it for Chris Hemsworth, who was scheduled to host the following week.
But Hanks eventually committed to the bit.
The ridiculous grin. The awkward dancing. The absolute confidence. And, of course, the immortal question:
“Any questions?”
The genius of the sketch is that nothing ever gets explained. The people riding the elevator are just as confused as the audience. And every time David S. Pumpkins returns, it somehow gets funnier.
The sketch became an instant hit. NBC eventually made an animated Halloween special around the character, and Hanks brought him back to SNL in 2022.
Ten years later, people still dress up as David S. Pumpkins every Halloween.
Three writers came up with a completely nonsensical idea at 4 a.m. Tom Hanks wasn’t sure it would work. Nobody bothered to explain the joke.
And somehow they created a Halloween icon.
Oh, and years later, the writers revealed what the S stands for.
Simon.
Why Simon?
Absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Which, honestly, makes the whole thing even funnier.
Happy Halloween. 🎃
ANY QUESTIONS?
he's David S. Pumpkins

A doctrine you need to spend some time with: mystical union with Christ. His actual life is communicated to us by the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit who anointed his sacred humanity anoints us as well.
Jesus is not only true, he is also beautiful.
On the latest Everyday Pastor episode, @LigonDuncan asked @JoelBeeke what we can learn from the Puritan Thomas Goodwin.
Don’t miss Dr. Beeke’s answer. One of the most special moments we’ve ever had on the show.
The prequels were hated because…
Episode 1 - Jar Jar, midichlorians, and…trade negotiations?
Episode 2 - Nuf said
Episode 3 - this was good, and we wanted more of this
No.
The Star Wars Prequels were hated because we were quite literally promised at least one or more movies about Darth Vader.
Darth Vader in the helmet and cape doing the iconic, menacing breathing.
Darth Vader fighting Jedi. Darth Vader enslaving Wookies. Darth Vader striding around and being a general all around badass.
That was the promise. That was what all the advertising was about leading up to The Phantom Menace. (1999).
Lucas welched on the deal.
Instead we got podracing, fart jokes, and a creepy romance with 17-year old Natalie Portman and 8-year old Jake Lloyd.
Last Thursday at my Session meeting I led them in some of Goodwin’s teachings and also using @daneortlund G&L book. It was a sweet time with those men talking about the love of Jesus.
