Remember when I said I was building a generational team for a generational company?
I’ve joined @trybasis to grow the Labs team alongside @mitch_troy, @falcone_design, and @simoncorry, where we're exploring what emerging technologies could become and how they might change the way we work, make, and live.
ANNOUNCMENT: I've joined @trybasis to work on Basis Labs
When agents write trillions of lines of code, solve open math problems and run our companies, what do we become?
I've always believed the answer is expanding what we're capable of
What inspires me most about what the Basis team have built is that they chose to expand what accountants can do with AI, not take it away. Today about half of the top 25 US accounting firms use Basis
I'm excited to work with @ethanproia, @falcone_design, @simoncorry, @mitch_troy and the wider Basis team on experimenting with:
- human-agent interfaces
- new kinds of models
- long-horizon agents
- fun benchmarks
- what AI means for society
Excited to share some of what we've been cooking!
heads up, @DoubleDiamondHQ starts in an hour (6 pm) at the bench
not me giving my hermes unfettered access to my chase account
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

Electra uses Devin to write code. She also decides what needs doing, tests changes, ships updates to internal tools, and pushes the team.
@matthew_busel shares what it takes to move from agents to actually delegating responsibility to AI teammates:
my wife has started doing “slow mornings” where she reads her kindle with a red light mask on
all i want to do is yap at her
how do i get a refund?

I’ve joined @trybasis to build their Labs team and work on experiments in design, intelligence, and media.
As a part of this role, I’m building @DoubleDiamondHQ into the home for people who design and build product in NYC, and an essential source of education and inspiration for everyone that cares about designing great things.
I’m beyond excited to scale this project, work with @simoncorry and @mitch_troy to explore new ones, and help make Basis the next great generational company.
Big things coming - onward!
We’ve had a blast learning with you, and now we’re scaling up every piece of what we do.
With the support of @trybasis, we’re going all in on our mission to become NYC’s home for designers and builders.
In this next chapter, we’ll be focused on producing industry-shaping events and media for our community here in NYC and our friends beyond.
Our own @falcone_design talked with @simoncorry and @mitch_troy about Basis betting on Double Diamond, and the power of new media and real community.
