Not least because the big two displayed here are HIGHLY problematic, to put it mildly.
Many folk believe that we are living in a golden age of children’s literature. Huge numbers of talented authors are producing exciting, diverse, funny, challenging, & engaging stories, for tots to teens. Please @asda, could you look at stocking a slightly broader range than this?
I think I actually just got my first ever secret reference in an episode of @flashforwardpod and wow what is this feeling 🧜🏼♀️

you are not a machine. you are more like a garden. you need different things on different days. a little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. you have fallow and fruitful seasons. it is not a design flaw. it is wiser than perpetual sameness. what does your garden need today?
Merci, cher cœur! 💜

This is my first #WorldBookDay as a children’s author! Thank you to everyone who has supported Lil’ Sir Dave this year, and I hope everyone has had a wonderful day celebrating. #DavidAttenborough

ALT The image shows me, Hux, a white personal with long brownish hair, a nose ring and pink lipstick, standing in front of bookshelves. I’m wearing a green and white floral dress. In my hand is a copy of my book Sir David Attenborough: A Life Story, which has a blue cover and has an illustration of David Attenborough on it drawn by Sarah Papworth

If you’re a fan of books or films you might have heard of the “Bechdel Test” before. It’s a way to measure the representation of women in fiction.
What you might not be aware of are its origins in LGBT+ pop culture. Buckle up for a 🧵.

A Very Easy thing to do, that many of us would even pay for, is rerun Robot Wars, Blind Date, Gladiators and other 90s/00s Saturday night TV. We need some comfort and, today, that is what that looks like.
Remember when bodies were just bodies that could do things? When we started with questions instead of pictures? When we whipped out our little ice pick to bash our enemies and got set on fire?
