Could you be the wrong founder for your startup?
In the new video, I break down the 4 questions every founder should ask before building.
Featuring ideas and examples from @cdixon, @paulg, Canva, Dropbox, and @decentwealthapp

That's the reason why @decentwealthapp exists. Your financial data never leaves your device.
Market trends change every quarter, but domain experience lasts.
Your founder story needs to convince investors and early hires that you know the problem inside and out, and you're not going anywhere.

Would you trade your privacy to find love or get rich?
I checked out an AI agent that asks you to pick goals like finding love or becoming famous.
It needs access to your everything: daily routines, career moves, and dating life. Devs can read your logs, and third-party LLMs process your data too.
So, the more data you surrender, the better advice you get.
🚩 A server knows more about your vulnerabilities than your closest friends
🚩 You outsource your strategic thinking to an algorithm
In the 2010s, we traded our privacy for targeted ads and social likes. Now, we are being asked to trade our privacy for agency and life direction.
The biggest challenge for such products is manufacturing trust.
Can a fluffy mascot or testimonials of people who transformed their lives make you feel less anxious about leaking your data?

Can't agree more with @julibachi.
When I switched from the creative industry to tech, it was very difficult to position myself as a brand strategist.
Tech guys perceived "brand" in the context of design (logo, colors, fonts). "Strategist" sounded like the opposite of delivering results. "Creative" sounded like a "mad artist."
That's why I explained what I did as "product marketing," "brand communications," and even "I make all visible parts of the company consistent and trustworthy."
The tech space likes to reinvent names for existing roles.
The role @katiewav describes is a brand strategist who is responsible for positioning, messaging, brand design (management, not execution), comms strategy, and a founder's personal brand, or the employer brand.
Back in my day, we called this a creative or brand strategist.
In tech, some of that work lives under content marketing, product marketing, or comms. These are different disciplines, but the request often sounds familiar: help us explain what we do, why it matters, and why people should care.
When brand is treated as the logo, colors, or launch campaign, it can seem like something to address once the product is ready. by then, people may already have formed an opinion.
Your product sets expectations. Onboarding, support, and how you communicate help determine whether the experience lives up to them. Brand takes shape through those interactions, with or without someone managing it.
The same applies to your personal reputation. People learn what to expect from how you act, even if you’ve never thought about having a “personal brand.”
that’s what i recognize in these roles: someone who understands the business and its audience, helps it communicate clearly, and notices when its words and actions drift apart.
The work might involve positioning, content, a product decision, or advising against a campaign. Its value depends on what it helps the business achieve, which means the person doing it needs access to the decisions behind the message.
If you want someone to give your company a coherent voice, include them in the conversations that shape it.
I’m glad teams are hiring for this. The titles may change, but the need feels familiar.

Product-Market Fit is nearly impossible to find without domain obsession.

Why do some founders seem almost destined to solve a problem while others struggle, even with strong credentials and huge funding? The new video is out! youtu.be/OEbOg7mr7Zg
Outdated Instagram trends created hype on crypto twitter and caused reputational risks. Yes, again.
On October 5, @zerion posted a funny statement about not being in Singapore for Token2049.
On October 6, @unimarketsdotio shared a post copying Zerion's statement.
@0xPolygon did the same, but not about Singapore. They bragged about their record year for payments. This could be okay if not for the toxic context of many projects shutting down daily.
Many people blame Polygon for dancing on @AbstractChain's grave. I don't think the intention was that. I guess they wanted to address the overall downfall in the crypto market and highlight their success.
In fact, these "sorry not sorry" takes were popular on Instagram as April 1 jokes. Jewelry ateliers, cafes, and dog fashion brands made statements apologizing for "spending too much time producing good stuff."
This case shows how far behind crypto marketing is compared to traditional businesses, why copying others is a bad idea, and how little is needed to make people mad.
