I look forward to Sina’s judgement on the next set of Iranian elections.
Will they have more than one permitted candidates? Maybe two.
So it seems Israel faces two main scenarios amid political gridlock: Netanyahu forming a coalition with Bennett, or Eisenkot with Palestinian parties, though he'll then lose Lieberman and likely his path to a majority.
And, in any case, Trump wants Netanyahu and will probably have his way.
The election itself was a telling reflection of the extremism, racism, exclusionary politics, and deeply undemocratic character of Israel's political system, where even the idea of governing with Palestinian parties is politically unacceptable, even at the cost of forfeiting power to your rival!

Deeply honored to be appointed by @GovKathyHochul to the New York State Holocaust Memorial Commission.
At a time of rising antisemitism, it is more important than ever that we honor the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, recognize the survivors, and ensure that future generations understand where hatred can lead.

Wonder what's the secret of the miracle called Israel?
Keith Siegel, held 484 days hostage by monsters in Gaza, is home, holding his first granddaughter.
What a beautiful sight!

“Some conservatives, like longtime Reagan aide and former Attorney General Ed Meese, made it a rule not to leak not only because they distrusted reporters but also because they believed it undermined the president for whom they worked. That principled stand contributed to Mr. Meese’s bad press, but it’s undoubtedly a more honorable way to serve an administration.” @TeviTroy in @WSJFreeEx

The strength of Israeli democracy lies in its people.
Yesterday, Israel recorded its highest voter turnout since 1999, with 77.7% casting their ballots. 🇮🇱🗳️

Bret Stephens in NYT: "Yes, Israel is a flawed country that’s not above reproach. But it’s difficult to take Israel’s inveterate critics seriously when they demand a “Free Palestine” without registering the slightest audible objection to the tyrannies in Ramallah and Gaza; or when, in the name of freedom and equality, they seek to abolish the Middle East’s only functioning liberal democracy."

Here’s the official Central Elections Committee website, where you can refresh for live results:

We’ll know much more by Wednesday afternoon. Around 650,000 special double-envelope ballots-roughly 11% of votes cast-will be counted separately, potentially into Thursday.

And now for the real results!
The votes from Israel's election will be counted through the night.
Only 29,379 votes from 128 polling places have thus far been accounted for.
You can track the process — including the breakdown by party — in real time at votes26.bechirot.gov.il

We are now in what might be called the journalist’s danger zone, where an overconfident prediction can stain the rest of your career. In 2015, the exit polls showed Likud and Isaac Herzog’s Zionist Union roughly tied at 27 or 28 seats each, and both camps claimed victory. The final result was Likud 30, Zionist Union 24, a six-seat gap no exit poll saw coming.
Stay humble.

Today, my thoughts are with the loved ones of the 11 Jews who were murdered at the Tree of Life Synagogue eight years ago.
They came together that day to share in their Judaism, and their lives were stolen from them in a horrific act of hate.
We carry them with us as we continue to fight against the scourge of antisemitism. May their memories be a blessing.

This morning, I asked Keith Siegel what it meant to him to cast his ballot today. He answered:
“To me, voting is about freedom, responsibility and hope for the future of our country. After spending 484 days in captivity in Gaza, being free and having the right to vote carries a deeper meaning for me. Freedom is not something I take for granted. It means having a voice, being able to make choices, and having a say in the future of our country. I believe our leaders must prioritize human life, dignity, peace, and security. When I vote, I am exercising a right that I deeply value and expressing my hope that our children, grandchildren and future generations will live in a country where freedom, democracy and humanity prevail.”
“Israeli elections are always consequential, but this one carries particular significance not only for Israel’s future but for its relationship with the United States, American Jewry and the broader Middle East,” Daroff said. “I will be watching closely, not just to see who wins the most seats but who can assemble a governing coalition and what that government might mean for Israel’s future.”

For centuries, Jews were singled out, demonized, and held to standards demanded of no one else. Today, Israel has become the Jew among nations at the United Nations.
Israel is entitled to the same standards of justice as every other nation—no more and no less.
Antisemitism does not become acceptable because it is stamped with the seal of the UN. This so-called Commission of Inquiry is a biased, illegitimate inquisition. We reject it. @AmbUNReform
