For 🇨🇦 QGIS users: you will notice a news item on your dashboard today, when you start QGIS (!). Thanks to the QGIS.ORG team for their help in publishing this. (the news item will appear a little differently if you use QGIS 4 versus QGIS 3, but the message gets across great either way!) #foss4g #family

Think back to geography class, it’s #WhereInTheWorld Wednesday! On October 4, 2026, #NOAA20 captured imagery of this mountain. Named after a British admiral, it has an elevation of over 11,200 feet—making it the tallest mountain in its state. It has erupted three times in the past 1,800 years.

A brilliant map of Nova Scotia’s lighthouses, showing each coastal light flashing in its real-world rhythm and pattern. A beautiful piece of cartography that turns navigational infrastructure into something almost hypnotic. Source: buff.ly/16Ye3IN

More people need to hear/see this.
The world is indeed borderless & interconnected when seen from above, we need frequent reminders of our common bonds. Astronauts are uniquely positioned to reconnect us to this reality through powerful artefacts such as this essential #TEDx #TED talk m.youtube.com/watch?v=gbLkmm…

25 years ago, our legacy IKONOS satellite captured imagery of the three sites connected to the September 11, 2001, attacks: the World Trade Center site in New York City, the Pentagon, and the Flight 93 crash site near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. At the time, IKONOS was the only high-resolution commercial imaging satellite in operation. The imagery it collected in the immediate aftermath documented the scale of the devastation at each site. On the 25th anniversary, we share these images in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families and communities forever affected, and all those who responded and served in the years that followed.
