The Child Care Services program does a great job helping Texas parents go to work and find high-quality care for their kids.
The Sunset process is an opportunity to make the program work even better.

Excited for this effort to improve the fragmented governance of early learning!
Working parents want affordable options — at church or private child care or public pre-k — where teachers read books to kids, help them paint pictures, & introduce them to letters & numbers. #TXlege
Today, Governor @GregAbbott_TX announced the members of the new Early Childhood Education & Care Task Force.
The task force will find ways to cut regulations to make childcare and pre-k programs more accessible & affordable for Texans.

High-quality pre-K has a remarkable impact on children’s reading skills.
At the start of the 2022-23 school year, only 41% of pre-K students in Texas demonstrated reading proficiency. By the end of the school year, that number jumped to 83%. Through the development of emergent literacy skills, pre-K programs improve kindergarten readiness and create a foundation for long-term learning.

Good news for Texas kids & families.
The #TXlege will clearly have money available to invest in priorities like public education, children’s mental health, child care for working parents, and overhauling outdated technology in the state’s Medicaid enrollment system. #TXbudget
ANNOUNCEMENT: Comptroller @Glenn_Hegar anticipates the 2026-27 #txlege budget will start with a $23.76 billion balance from the current biennium after lawmakers didn’t spend all available funds in 2023.

My kiddos are so happy they are going to get more time with their Papa! Congratulations on a truly impressive career. I feel lucky to have had a front row seat to it all my life. I hope to make you proud as a fellow journo and as your daughter. Happy retirement!!
I am absolutely blown away by the kind words today. In fact, I am so moved, I might pull a @RealChuckBark and un-retire before I retire. Nah. I'll work tonight and then go cover this basketball, instead. But thank you everyone so much.
