Here's the updated forecast for our weekend storm. Overall totals are trending a little lower, but there is still a fair amount of uncertainty in the exact storm track, so we have a 20% chance for double or half these amounts. #CAwx #SoCal #LAWeather

This World Series photo is one of the best sports photos I have ever seen, but the process behind how it was captured might be even more interesting. No, it wasn't done with AI or a drone. Here's what you need to know... Mike Carlson and Carmen Mandato took this photo, and Carlson broke down the process on Instagram. He says they go up on the catwalk before games to install a series of cameras mounted in different positions — looking at home plate, the mound, etc. But since photographers can't sit on the catwalk during games (and also have to take other photos), Carlson and Mandato install a trigger to help take photos remotely. The way it works is simple: When Carlson and Mandato take photos with their handheld camera in the outfield, the catwalk camera also takes a photo. The catwalk camera is also connected to a network, so it automatically sends the photo to an editor. This is similar to the process NBA photographers use to get those popular "spotlight effect" photos. But instead of mounting their camera on a catwalk in the arena, NBA photographers use a trigger to activate the strobe lights most NBA arenas have installed in the rafters. Most people never notice the strobe light going off, but once you do, you'll notice it every time. Super interesting.

Amazing to see this! 🌵 Arizona will be the wettest state by volume with over 3.2 Trillion gallons of additional rainfall over the next 3-days. 🌧️ ⚠️ Risk of flooding -- be careful in canyons and on the roadways in Phoenix. Anytime we see trillions on the map for Arizona, all of the lizards and cacti get excited. 🦎

Big Sur, California just recorded its warmest water temperature in recorded history. 67.3°F on Monday, 11°F above normal. Record warm waters for October now span much of the California coast from San Diego to the Bay Area. You can see well above normal sea surface temperatures spreading north throughout October.

NOAA tide station observations indicate oceanic Kelvin waves are contributing to new/broken water level records along the California coast, including some of the highest readings in over a century. San Diego, CA - 2.80 feet above mean higher high water (MHHW) - Station dates back to 1906 La Jolla, CA - 2.65 feet above MHHW - Station dates back to 1924 Los Angeles, CA - 2.70 feet above MHHW - Station dates back to 1923 Santa Barbara, CA - 2.65 feet above MHHW - Station dates back to 1974 These elevated water levels are the result of above-normal tides—caused by the full moon and perigean spring tide (when the Moon is closest to the Earth)—in addition to impacts from El Niño-driven Kelvin waves. More record-breaking water levels are possible today, with a continued risk of flooding and other coastal hazards. The preliminary observations at the San Pedro tide gauge reported 8.02 feet this morning, which is an all-time record (records going back to November 1923). The previous record was 7.93 feet set on 01/10/2005. Slightly higher tides are possible tomorrow.

This is going to be a generational winter for coastal flooding and erosion along California’s coast. A marine heatwave plus a Kelvin Wave from El Niño have already rapidly raised water levels in recent weeks. Combined with king tides this winter, it’s likely every coastal city from the Bay Area to SoCal will see their highest water levels in recorded history.

HEADS UP!!!! Minor to moderate coastal flooding likely Sun-Thu * High tides 7.5 to 8.0 feet - 1.0 to 1.5 feet above astronomical projections * Moderate to significant beach erosion likely * Small chance of localized upgrades to Warnings #CAwx
