Following heavy rain it appears that the wildlife pond at Lauriston Farm is at least in part fed by an underground source, a culverted stream or field drain perhaps @CoopEdinburgh

Platygaster subuliformis - a microwasp parasitoid attacking the pest Brassica pod midge (Dasineura brassicae). Recently found at Lauriston Farm, Edinburgh. Pretty obscure so may well be new for Scotland #entomology
Pleased to find that Lauriston Farm has a resident Water rail. Seen over a 5 day period foraging mostly during the day, sometimes at night. Has managed to escape the local weasel gang so far...
Anyone have obs. of Plagiotrochus coriaceus in Britain besides the original discovery by Robbins (2007)? Am going to review this species in Britain. Galled leaves below - smaller cp to other Plagiotrochus leaf galls & unilocular, sometimes in groups but never coalescing. Thanks!
Gall wasps 🐝associated with buds of 🍃Holm oak Quercus ilex in Britain: ⭐️Plagiotrochus britaniae new to Britain ( Scotland🏴, England 🏴& Wales🏴), ⭐️Saphonecrus barbotini new to Britain (🏴)and ⭐️Ceroptres cerri new host record. Paper submitted. #Cynipidae #Fagaceae #Gallwasps
Several Snipe are often present at the wildlife pond at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh now the marginal vegetation is a bit longer and provides some cover. The dense vegetation also makes them really hard to see, this one was good enough for a record photo at least #crapbirdphotos
The camouflage of the Merveille du jour moth may appear conspicuous now that so few trees in Edinburgh have lichen covered trunks. From recent trapping at Lauriston Farm
A Stonechat taking advantage of the abundance of insects in marginal vegetation by one of the ponds. 3/x
A few animal sightings from the last week at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh - Short-eared owl⬇️ 1/x
A handful of Swallow prominent (Pheosia tremula) caterpillars on recently planted Aspens today at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh. They look so smooth and shiny like wax. Mostly final instar but one younger. #Notodontidae #moths
Common enough but the caterpillar of the Grey dagger moth is a stunner. 😍 Today at Lauriston Farm @CoopEdinburgh on one of the recently planted Sallows #Edinburgh #Acronicta @ReforestingGlen
Still more Poplar hawk moth caterpillars at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh, these ones on Aspen. They are having a good year here.
Poplar hawkmoths still about at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh. Found a handful on willow while I was setting up for moth trapping. The ones with red spots are my favourite! 😍
