This is a significant victory for West Indies cricket. Bangladesh is no longer an easy team to defeat, especially at home. Given the financial challenges faced by cricket in the region, the players have to be lauded for their commitment and professionalism. One more test to go, but well to Roston Chase’s men.

Turns out the English County Championship does make absolutely top notch, world class, bona fide spinners. Unfortunately they don’t appear to be English.

Yeah agree. Legally hard to do much about passport holders, but residency could comfortably be pushed up to five years (though what counts as a year is overly strict now IMO, from 183 days to "no off-season in the other hemisphere, barely allowed holidays" is a bit much)

I wrote about this trend some 8 years ago, so far Jersey are pretty much the only side bucking it.

I read a quote recently (can’t recall where though) which is apt for politicians in so many jurisdictions today. The quote was:
“I know exactly what to do but I don’t know how to get re-elected once I have done it”.

GEL? Then yes the STSB was appalled at what was transpiring due to a dysfunctional regulatory regime. That's why when I was president I persuaded the states to take GEL out of that regime [against lots of push back]. Trouble is the damage had been done + a debt mountain created.

.... the current regime. Re standing charges generally the problem is that if they are scrapped the unit cost has to go up to compensate. So the "normal user" ends up subsidising those who want a supply but rarely use. EG someone who self-generates but wants to stay on grid.

.... it is not regulated [but restricted by the water law] and charges went up modestly for very many years. Problem was that historically far too little capital investment was made so GW is now playing catch up. So yes, by definition, mismanagement but not by ....

New to this thread. Three answers. In relation to electricity the regulatory regime froze the basic tariffs for a decade, which not only prevented funds being put aside for capex but plunged GEL into an absurd amount of debt. In relation to water ....

That’s correct and the they borrowed from Banks on term that made it expensive to refinance and the customers have to pay to repair the balance sheet

It’s difficult enough getting a Right to Work for a locally born and educated student/school leaver. Coming from outside the island must be ridiculously difficult.
