I've worked in secret for two years, and it's finally time: my next game is We Harvest Shadows, a first-person farming horror allegory. The announcement has already been a dream come true here at #gamescom2024.
The demo is available now on Steam. Full release date TBA!

Here comes some technical mental health advice.
After we finished Go Mecha Ball. My brain was racing at 1000 rpm.
When I no longer had a project funnelling my brain, it just went all over the place in a very uncomfortable way. 🧵
If you've ever wondered why The First Tree has a "TM" at the end on iOS only, it's because people register and park the names ahead of time so they can bargain with the real developers. Apple requires lawyers to reverse it. so I just added a TM instead. 😆
In We Harvest Shadows (and if you recall, the demo), we have some gun combat mechanics. You can shoot crows and other animals that threaten your farm. HOWEVER, in our most recent playtests, I'm not sure it's working. Does WHS need gun combat?

97% percent positive. I am undone. I will not take credit for any of this. YOU ALL supported me through years of self doubt, confusion, and frustration. Felipe, Hector, Gordon, Ajay, Brynn... who else.... there's so many. @JonasTyroller for his encouragement and playtesting. @JasozzGames for his insane attention to detail in his constructive criticism. @thomasmahler for your brutally honest feedback about "juice" that changed everything for me. Chad for your granular PDFs on the game mechanics. @IndieGameJoe for your encouragement and strategy. James @ Signal Spike (store.steampowered.com/publi…) for your entire save system rework in the last 24 hours. @SerenityForge (z) for your unwavering dedication to encouraging me @quintencoblentz for a phenomenal soundtrack @DavidWehle for your overwhelming sympathy (we were in this together the whole time man!!) @jmontygman for your friendship and letting me rant @TwoStarGames for constant feedback about the game design. There's so many more. I love you!
I know there’s some debate on “make games fast”… but I’m coming on 6 years of working on my game. Just did a 14 hour day. This… is not the answer. It’s miserable.
Making a game in 3 months sounds heavenly. 😮💨
For We Harvest Shadows, we're having our first big playthroughs this month and there's already a lot of excitement. Lots of issues to fix too, but everyone is so pumped. I love my publisher, can't wait to tell you all more about it when the time is right.
Apparently I’m doing the method-acting version of making a Silent Hill inspired game. I work all day in a dingy dark basement, then I go outside and get ashes falling down on me. 😮💨
In all of these work-sim clicking games like Leaf It Alone or Supermarket Sim, how do you feel about "hold to interact" options? Instead of clicking a ton, you just hold the button down to pick up items. Should it be an in-game upgrade? Or is it an accessibility option?
No wonder people start new game dev projects. it's all fun and games until you have to make a gamma adjustment menu that actually works.
The farming stuff is fun, and the weird horror events are fun too... but I really think what will set We Harvest Shadows apart from other horror games isn't the hook, but the story.
I'm trying really hard to make a scary game that sits in your heart and fills you with awe.

how to turn a 3D scan into a game-ready mesh, i guess?
spent a bit this afternoon tinkering with how to decimate a 3D scan without nuking the texture, kinda cursed but worked decently!

I understand rotations so little that i will literally put in random numbers and try it out until it works
