At first glance, this looks like nothing more than a young Jesus stretching at the end of a long day in the carpenter’s shop. But look at the wall behind him… It was painted by the English artist William Holman Hunt, and it imagines him years before his ministry began, working with wood like any other young man in Nazareth. He has just put down his saw, and he lifts his arms above his head to stretch his tired body. It’s the most ordinary human gesture imaginable. But his shadow falls on the wall behind him, right across the wooden rack where the carpenter’s tools hang, and suddenly it takes the shape of a man with his arms nailed to a cross. On the floor, his mother Mary has been kneeling by an old chest, looking at the gifts the Magi gave her son when he was a baby. She turns, sees the shadow, and freezes... Once you notice the shadow, the rest of the room begins to speak too: a red headband lying at his feet foreshadows the crown of thorns, a star-shaped window above him recalls the star that once led the Magi to his cradle, and the arched window behind his head forms a halo. Hunt called the painting The Shadow of Death, and in one ordinary evening it holds a whole life: the gifts that welcomed his first breath, and the cross that would take his last...

Those players watched Carrick get applauded at full time then they got slaughtered by the same fans. If that doesn't give them a wake up call they definitely need then nothing will.

What a satisfying picture. Those are Ratcliffe’s β€˜big hitter’ seats that are empty. The Β£399 β€˜ticket + 1 beer token’ seats. They can’t sell them, the well is running dry. Off you fuck.

The Glazers have shown us the damage corporate greed and unfettered capitalism can do. In comes Jim, and along with the corporate greed, sacking workers, & replacing them with cheaper labour, he adds a smitten of racism to really kill our club off

I rarely do this… But @Shearings you are a disgrace. My in-laws, in their 70s, spend their pension on a holiday with you in St Ives …and this is where you sent them?! My father-in-law has Parkinson’s too - so well done for stressing him out. And my mother-in-law cried on the phone to you asking for a full refund And YOU REFUSED?!

Accents: South London Oh how the youth have changed. These lads talk about the importance of having a good suit in the 1950s. Their overall demeanour speaks volumes as to how the working-class understood the importance of personal, and cultural maintenance. "I spend about 30 bob a week on clothes".
