“‘Existential gratitude’ was associated with higher “spiritual well-being”.... This finding is important considering that gratitude and spirituality have been shown to be protective factors against both anxiety and depression.”

I’m very nervous about Christians being bounced into a “works” gospel on climate change: eat less beef, drive less, don’t go on holiday etc. All of these things are necessary and good, but won’t save the world. Massive, structural change and miracles are what’s needed.

Such a crucial article. Where are all the youth workers, will lead to a church with no young people. We must reverse the decline. We’re losing a generation again? Churches are desperate for youth workers. So why can’t they find any? premierchristianity.com/opin… – at South West, England

Christians: The crisis is not that you are politically homeless. The crisis is that we ever thought we could make a home in politics at all.

If you're like most people, the strongest behavioral incentives you'll ever have in life are fundamentally social, which is why choosing who to surround yourself with and who to become particularly close to are the closest things you'll ever have to choosing who you are

A church built through consumer strategies will have a culture that becomes transactional rather than covenantal.

Welcome renewed focus on using church assets for social purposes. Requires courage, willingness to forego short to medium term gain in favour of longterm benefit, and investigate why it is more difficult to do now what we used to do some 20 yrs ago.

This might be unpopular but if you're worried about the long-term financial viability of the Church of England then probably the best thing to do, rather than trying to blame managerialism or consumerism or whatever else, is to give money to your parish church.

Last week, at a hospital appointment, while taking my history, a nurse questioned why I hadn't terminated my pregnancy after my daughter was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. The words 'risk of a Downs' were used. This is Betsy. The child she was referring to. Loving life ❤️

Hamworthy Churches (St Michael's Hamworthy and St Gabriel's Turlin Moor) have provided school with funding to purchase five laptops. This is very generous, and we are very grateful for their continued support. Thank you to @hamworthychurch and members of its congregation.

This is very good from @_F_B_G_ on the quiet deflection of social welfare services back to the Church of England, by Tories who were once the backbone of that Church and now treat it more as a handy backstop for a shrinking welfare state
'The Conservative Party might currently appear to be run by horny, malign Beano characters, yet Toryism’s mutation from shire-reaction to libertarian front is an episode with religion at its core.'
