The hardest part of decentralized governance isn't voting. It's incentives.
For six years, Filecoin rewarded the creation of storage capacity. Now, we're taking a major step toward rewarding something fundamentally different: paying customers.
Here's why Solstice matters. 🧵
Major developments to Filecoin tokenomics and strategy that go live this month 💫
1. Rewarding customer acquisition & retention with new network reward mechanics
2. End of vesting built into the genesis block completes, reducing daily token supply growth
3. New products for enterprises and AI agents

Blockchains are extraordinarily good at coordinating behavior through economic incentives. But those incentives are only as useful as the outcomes they encourage.
Reward capacity, and you'll get capacity. Reward useful services, and you incentivize competition for customers.
Solstice (FIP-0118) makes that transition concrete: a growing share of block rewards goes to services generating paid usage, while less goes to consensus-only mining. Unearned service rewards are burned.
The network increasingly rewards economic activity, not just infrastructure
And the demand side is coming together. Fil One is bringing enterprise storage to Filecoin. Integral Spacetime aims to migrate existing businesses and their workloads. New developer tools make storage accessible to AI agents.
The goal: a self-reinforcing economic loop.
To me, this is what decentralized governance should enable: protocols that adapt their incentives as ecosystems mature.
Filecoin's first six years established the infrastructure. The next six are about the customers and services that make it valuable.
Happy birthday @Filecoin 🎂
