A brief update on the critical vulnerabilities in PHP:  We have not yet validated exploitation in the wild and we have no evidence of successful wide scale exploitation. There are currently several exploit PoCs publicly circulating, many of which appear to be "vibe-coded" and are incapable of remote code execution. We have validated some PoCs, however, that are capable of RCE against default deployments of mod_php but not PHP-FPM. Nonetheless, exploitation may have already begun in a limited fashion and the threat is viable and very serious. Defenders should: 1) Patch & Restart by upgrading to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, or 8.2.35 and restarting web services 2) Layer Temporary Safeguards at the network edge (WAF/proxy rules) and server configuration level if immediate patching requires a maintenance window 3) Protect Credentials by monitoring for abnormal session traffic and rotating keys and passwords on compromised internet-facing PHP systems exposed prior to patching 🔗 We are continually updating our Cloud Security blog post on this topic with real-world guidance and actionable defense strategies as we learn more. Please keep monitoring these posts for updates as you prioritize your patching efforts: cloud.google.com/blog/produc…  🔗 Technical details from Wiz: wiz.io/blog/php2shell-php-rc… 🔗 Details of the exposure from VirusTotal: blog.virustotal.com/2026/10/…

There's another PHP vulnerability that was not fixed in the releases on 10/21. It can lead to RCE, but only in specific, unusual circumstances. CVE-2026-115560. PHP plans to fix it in a normal release cycle. php.net/

Most weeks, the eMudhra situation would be the biggest news, but #PHP2Shell wouldn't be denied.

This didn't get as much attention as some other bugs this week, but it's a pretty serious vulnerability in BIND. kb.isc.org/docs/cve-2026-943…

One more example of why @duosec was not just special, but unique.
Anytime there was a security breach @dugsong and @jonoberheide would send the team pizza: "The CISO is running around. Their hair is on fire. Maybe the breach got leaked to the news. They're dealing with the PR response. Their executives are all around them, asking what happened, what's affected. We'd send them a pizza and energy drinks. We'd say 'so sorry this is happening. I hope this is helpful. Give us a call when you come up for air.' Contrast that to what usually happens in that situation. BDR's from every security startup find that CISO's phone number. They call them and say "If only you bought our product, this wouldn't have happened." But is that really what they need? Especially right then? It's very obviously not if you take half a second to think about it. That's why we sent them pizza. And talked about the pizza play to every @duosec new hire in onboarding so that the whole company built customer empathy."

The #php2shell bugs are quite serious and may have a very long tail of exploitation.
