1/n A couple tweets returning to the earlier theme of a 40/40/20 energy system by 2040 (40% RE, 40% nuclear, 20% gas).

Honored to welcome Boris Pistorius to Kyiv. Germany is now #1 globally in security aid to Ukraine, providing 1/3 of our total support. From Patriot missiles to $1B+ for Ukrainian drones, this aid is already delivering results: 90% drone interceptions & 5k mid-strikes per month. Excited to launch "Brave Germany" with @BRAVE1ua — a joint platform for grants & R&D in AI, UAVs, and missiles. We are building a new European security architecture rooted in Ukrainian tech & combat experience.

I agree. To return to the negotiating table as a participant rather than an appetiser, Europe must escalate: create a problem whose resolution requires its involvement. The obvious starting point is to confiscate Russia’s financial assets frozen in Europe and use them to support Ukraine’s defence of the inviolability of Europe’s borders. Europe would then hold a decisive stake in any financial settlement - and a seat that Washington and Moscow could no longer simply arrange between themselves.
In light of Norway’s 🇳🇴 and Finland’s 🇫🇮 peace efforts, it is important to stress that Europe 🇪🇺 faces a momentous choice: either to accept Russia’s agenda and acquiesce in a new reality imposed by force, or to act, in both word and deed, in pursuit of a just and lasting peace that ultimately secures a free, united Europe with real geopolitical clout.

Steve Witkoff proposed reopening pipelines carrying Russian oil and gas through Ukraine as part of a postwar “regional prosperity plan,” Le Monde reports. Kyrylo Budanov reportedly objected: “Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” The proposal was discussed during October 9 talks in Florida. hromadske.ua/en/war/273254-w…

"The outcome is predictable: Bharat Petroleum openly stated in November that the "commercial viability" of doing business with Russia had declined, while supplies from the Middle East have returned to normal."
India Is Losing Interest in Putin's Oil New Delhi, which had previously abandoned Russian coal, is now methodically moving away from the practice of purchasing Russian oil. Even the crisis and missile exchanges in the Strait of Hormuz have failed to lure the Indians back into Moscow's warm embrace. According to Bloomberg, Indian giants - Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, and Mangalore Refinery - are collectively cutting back on purchases from their "main strategic partner". The reason is painfully prosaic: shipping Urals oil halfway around the world amid sky-high freight rates has simply become unprofitable. For Kremlin, the math looks like a blatant mockery: Iraqi oil is currently trading at a discount of more than $25 per barrel to the Dubai benchmark, which fully offsets the risks and the high logistics costs of shipping through the Gulf. The outcome is predictable: Bharat Petroleum openly stated in November that the "commercial viability" of doing business with Russia had declined, while supplies from the Middle East have returned to normal. The friendship with Moscow ended precisely when the basic laws of economics came into play. Neither persuasion nor the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz helped - Putin's pragmatic "friends" in Delhi are turning off the tap without the slightest sentimentality. Follow us! Replying to @Mylovanov
Yesterday Putin said to his 🇷🇺 audience that Ukrainians and Russians are one people and Ukraine was historically Russia. For his western audience we're back to "NATO expansion" and "Russian security concerns". Something for everyone.

"A stunning defeat for a Trump-aligned right-wing leader in Europe." LOL.
A stunning defeat for a Trump-aligned right-wing leader in Europe. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, whose government cultivated close ties with Donald Trump and his family, has conceded defeat to a student-led opposition movement in a historic parliamentary election. Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. personally met with Vučić, while Jared Kushner pursued a major luxury real estate project with his government. Now, after nearly two years of massive student-led protests against corruption and authoritarianism, Vučić's ruling party has been defeated at the ballot box. The student-backed movement is projected to win a parliamentary majority, ending more than a decade of dominance by Vučić's party.

After Pierre Poilievre lost 18 months ago, I shouted from every rooftop that Trump was a danger for the international right. At the time, the message was unpopular and I was called a liberal, but people finally saw the obvious. spectator.com/article/donald…

Balkan at its best.
Over the past few days, I have held talks with the leaders of several Balkan countries, and today an important election is taking place in Serbia. It reminded me of how, as a child, I often went with my parents to the Serbian Restaurant, which has since closed down. Fortunately, you can still find great ćevapi in plenty of places, whether Sarajevo-style or Serbian-style.

Here are ćevapi, the Zagreb style (the beer is Slovenian, surprisingly).

I strongly recommend listening to this. 👇 Anyone familiar with Russia will find little here surprising. Neither Putin nor his cronies conceal their worldview or political intentions. On the contrary, they communicate them consistently and openly. They clearly regard Trump and his envoys as “useful idiots” (полезные идиоты). Russian political vocabulary has a term for precisely such people: politicians, commentators and artists incapable of recognising that Russia regards them as enemies and wishes them ill, yet willing to support it against their own obvious interests. The contempt is not confined to Putin and his cronies. Russians beyond the Kremlin also regard Trump and his special envoys as idiots. And not without reason.
How is Donald Trump’s criticism of President Zelensky interpreted in Moscow? “Moscow perceives these words as a mandate to continue military pressure,” writes one Russian paper. I ask Muscovites to name one word that’s important to them, & read what Russian schoolkids are taught about “defence of the Motherland.” #ReadingRussia

It is possible that the rumors relating to a new batch of European-made Stormshadow / SCALP EG missiles to Ukraine might be true. Another factory in Russia has been struck this afternoon, this time in Yelets, Lipetsk region. Several impacts have been reported. The area has been cordoned off and ambulances are rushing in. This comes only 2 days after a factory belonging to Russia's military industrial complex in Oryol was targeted and shot ablaze.

"The United States isn't sufficiently clear with Putin in telling him what an intergalactic creep he is." This is correct and I like the new term "an intergalactic creep".
Boris Johnson: When I hear some of the language from the White House and its emissaries about Putin, I don't like it. The United States isn't sufficiently clear with Putin in telling him what an intergalactic creep he is. 1/

If these numbers persist, Germany is on track to become the largest supplier of Patriot ammunition to Ukraine, solely through the PAC-2 GEM-T production being launched in Germany. Additional funding via PURL and JUMPSTART clearly underlines this development. Germany has already placed an order for 600 PAC-2 GEM-T missiles for Ukraine, to be manufactured at the factory opening in Germany, at a cost of a staggering €3.2 billion. These are due to be delivered between 2027 and 2031, i.e. an average of 120 per year (although deliveries will, of course, start off more slowly). In addition, Germany continues to provide regular funding for the purchase of additional Patriot ammunition, in particular US-manufactured PAC-3 missiles, via PURL and JUMPSTART. Most recently, in June 2026, Germany provided funding for PAC-3 missiles worth $200 million via JUMPSTART and for additional missiles for air defence systems via PURL, also amounting to $200 million. In addition to this, it is also to be expected that small batches of PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles (single to low double-digits) will be supplied from Bundeswehr stocks from time to time, as has been the case on several occasions this year.
⚡ Ukraine received only 24 Patriot air defense missiles from the US over the last 90 days, President Zelenskyy revealed. He stressed that Washington is withholding authorization for missile shipments, despite the munitions being largely financed by European allies.

'Let's get down to business.' It's quite evident that this guy has been a businessman his entire life.
"We may do another little Epic Fury, or they'll agree." President Trump teases another potential U.S. strike on Iran if Tehran doesn't reach a deal. "If they're smart, they'll just say, 'Let's get down to business.' But, you know, I doubt they'll do that because perhaps they're not smart." Zelenskyy: Ukraine is no longer just receiving weapons from Italy — it is helping shape what gets built next. Kyiv tells Italian manufacturers what works in combat, what fails and how Ukrainian engineers improve it. Joint production is already underway — United24. 1/
