🇲🇲 Myanmar: Resistance forces capture police station
Footage shared online appears to show People's Defence Force (PDF) fighters raiding and seizing a police station held by the military regime, with several regime personnel taken prisoner.
The PDF is the armed wing of the National Unity Government (NUG), formed after the military seized power in the February 2021 coup. Since then, Myanmar has been in a nationwide civil war between the junta and a coalition of PDFs and ethnic armed groups.
Western countries, including the US, UK and EU members, have sanctioned the junta and back the pro-democracy movement politically. The US has also authorised non-lethal aid, such as communications gear and medical supplies. Russia and China, meanwhile, remain the junta's main diplomatic and military backers.
