Gaslighters love getting you angry. Try as much as you can, not to. Remain calm and indifferent to their behaviour. Not engaging with them shows you have a level of emotional and self-control.

Gaslighting is destructive and manipulative behaviour, but we can be active in our interactions with a gaslighter. Over the coming days, and my next broadcast, Tuesday 8th October at 7.00 pm, I will share a few hints and tips how we can protect ourselves in such circumstances.

If you suspect your partner is gaslighting you, do not argue with them, don’t get trapped into whether something happened or not. Confusion, chaos and disturbance is the gaslighter’s oxygen...cut off their supply!

Anyone who says leadership is easy, is not being truthful. Confronting the gaslighter, it is tough, but if you let the situation slide you will be in for a warm time later. So, come on. Gird your loins, take a deep breath, and even if your knees are knocking, do what is right.

Despite all your strategies, the truth is, you may need to leave your workplace. Have, or develop, an exit strategy. There is no point remaining in a place if the level of gaslighting/toxicity is making you sick. Your health and wellbeing are non-negotiable. Never forget that.

If you are to remain in toxic workplaces, learn resilience. Remember, negative messages from gaslighters are not your fault, but learn about self-compassion. Kristen Neff says, "self-compassion comprises three components. Self-kindness. Common humanity, and mindfulness."
