One of my favorite life quotes is a scene from 2002’s Maid in Manhattan where the late great Bob Hoskins (playing head butler) says to JLo’s character (playing the hotel maid) — “To serve people takes dignity and intelligence. But remember, they are only people with money. And although we serve them, we are not their servants. What we do…does not define who we are. What defines us is how well we rise after falling.” Such an impactful statement that resonated with me at a time when I was working retail in NYC’s high-end 5th Avenue jewelry industry, years away from becoming a corporate lawyer. Never ever let anyone make you feel inferior merely because you do not have money.
