Core issue in the culture we need to rectify:
Video games should not be treated as art. EA, Sony, Microsoft, do not exist as patrons for art projects. The corporations exist to generate revenue. Anyone saying otherwise is lying. They are producing products. And products need to sell.
You want to make an artistic game? Fine, go make mixtape. Make it out of your garage. Have you and your 3 other team members survive off ramen noodles. And maybe you do pop off and make it. More than likely you’ll be like Van Gogh, and die before anyone appreciates your art.
But if you jump into the AAA pool, and have all the benefits that come from working for “the man”, you have to justify those paychecks. You gotta swim. And the only way to swim in that world, is producing profit. And the only way to do that, is to make great games.
Maybe companies should make game development commission based.
Caring about gaming means celebrating when companies that make bad games are shut down.
The desperate urge by weirdos like you to label any dissenting opinion as "grifters profiting off of hate" speaks to how weak your position actually is. You wouldn't need to throw this ridiculous strawman at every opinion you disagree with if you had any arguments of actual merit against them.
Fundamentally, I think the label of art is used too loosely as well. I’ve met people who believe nature itself is art.
For example: a carpenter 500 years ago, he would make a shelf by hand. He has studied the craft his whole life, and he pours his soul into that shelf. I would consider that shelf to be “art”. I would not however consider the IKEA shelves to be art.
Fundamentally they are both shelves, and they serve the same purposes. But to me there is a difference. that’s how I feel about games.
People mad about this,
why yall mad? They telling you there is nothing to be hyped about. I rather them set my expectations beforehand vs. watching an hour stream of “thank you, zig zig ah” to end in nothing.
This is the communication we asked for.

Hey @PlanetZooGame, How come you guys have "extinct in wild" and "extinct" as two separate classifications for defining animals in the game? When would the extinct classification ever be utilized? Are we getting mammoth's or Dodo's in a future DLC?
“What do you mean? Today is about celebrating fallout! I thought you all wanted more 76 updates! We ported over some extra assets from fallout 4 for your camp. $7.99 each! What a steal!”

The only IP I’ve seen more mishandled is Halo.
Holy fuck Bethesda, get your shit together.
I love that someone ported our mask to Baldurs gate 3! They even gave it a custom ability. Can you guess it? If you also would like to port the mask over to any other game, please feel free! Its for everyone to use! (pls credit back to our project tho)

Today marks 1 year from Dagoths initial public release, and as of today, he is available on both Xbox and PlayStation.
Thank you all for sticking around, and playing with him! Ive loved watching everyone’s reactions to him along the way.
2.0 is not as far along as I’d like, but I have been working on it when I can. I do intend to have an update for Dagoth out within the next couple months. But things are moving slow.
I hope you all are also looking forward to my next mod project for Starfield. I think you’ll love it just as much!

A bit of a creation kit technical post:
If you didn’t know already, every bit of dialogue in a Bethesda game is handled within a “quest”.
“Arrow to the knee” “cloud district” every single line that can be spoken is tied down to a quest, even if it’s not one you can have in your log or complete.
In skyrims creation kit, quests have tabs at the top of them with different options. Things like player dialogue, combat, detection, misc, ect. It also had a tab called “scenes”.
That tab is what is used to make for example, make balgruf walk over and talk to Farengar. So I really haven’t used it a ton for Dagoth.
But now hopping into starfield, they made the adjustment so that ALL players dialogue runs through scenes. Every conversation you can possibly have is a scene.
At first I wasn’t a fan of this change. It seemed over complex for what I was attempting to create. But after a few days playing with it, I can see the value of the change and how it actually simplifies a lot of things that Skyrim had to work around.
