Alberta is mourning alongside the Canadian Armed Forces and the families, friends and colleagues of those affected by the tragic incident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright yesterday. The loss of life and injuries are heartbreaking. On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and wish those who have been injured a full recovery. Our thoughts are also with the military personnel, families and colleagues facing uncertainty and grief during this incredibly difficult time. We are deeply grateful to the first responders, paramedics, physicians, nurses and hospital teams across Alberta who have mobilized to provide care to those injured. Albertans should all be incredibly proud of their frontline health care workers and our acute care system that has managed this mass casualty event. We’re also thankful to our neighbours in Saskatchewan who did not hesitate to support our response with additional air ambulance capacity, and to other provinces who have reached out offering their support and condolences. I will be traveling to Edmonton today to meet with provincial ministers and federal officials. The Government of Alberta continues to work closely with the federal government and local authorities. We have convened our Emergency Management Cabinet Coordination Committee and the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) has been activated to a level 3. As a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives and in solidarity with the military community and their families, flags at provincial government buildings across Alberta will be lowered to half-mast. In the days ahead, our thoughts will remain with everyone affected by this tragedy. Alberta stands with the Canadian Armed Forces, the people of Wainwright and all those grieving during this difficult time.

We are learning of a significant and tragic fire at CFB Wainwright today that is affecting many of our brave military personnel. Alberta’s government is in close contact with the Government of Canada and Prime Minister Mark Carney as this situation evolves. Thank you to the first responders and all those providing care and support to those affected.

Alberta closed the books on 2025-26 with a $2.2 billion surplus and the Heritage Savings Trust Fund finished the year at a record high of more than $32 billion. We delivered that surplus in the same year we cut personal income taxes with a new 8% bracket, the lowest in the country. That put up to $750 back in the pocket of every Albertan and up to $1,500 back with the average family. The Heritage Fund is on track to reach $35 billion in 2027 and $250 billion by 2050. Every dollar of income stays in and compounds. That is a promise to Albertans who come next and keeping it is one of the most important things this government will ever do.

Big news for Calgary and Rocky View County! Happy to partner with both municipalities to build a new interchange on Stoney Trail connecting to Airport Trail into Calgary. Our UCP government invested $24 million to improve Calgarians commute and Alberta’s economic corridors.

Your family home matters. It is the biggest financial investment most people will ever make. Families have been concerned about what is happening to out-of-control infill in their neighbourhoods. This morning in Edmonton, I am joined by the Minister of Municipal Affairs Dan Williams, as our government takes action. xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1dxYlanWd…

“I remember a meeting I had years ago with an AHS official who said, ‘if we fix Innisfail's ambulance bay door problem, then there's a whole bunch of other rural hospitals that we have to fix their ambulance bays to fit modern ambulances. To me, that was something that showed the reason why we needed to have massive reforms in AHS to put priorities on these local health initiatives to be able to serve not just Edmonton and Calgary but also in rural Alberta.” thealbertan.com/innisfail-ne…

🚨BREAKING The federal NDP and Avi Lewis @avilewis just released a statement opposing the new pacific link pipeline and demanding it be halted. They oppose Alberta's Pacific Link pipeline and they will do everything in their power to kill it. Understand what this means... This would kill 140,000 jobs. Stop tens of billions in new wealth for Albertans to build things like hospitals and schools. Lost jobs and lower paycheques for Alberta families. Today I am calling on Naheed Nenshi @nenshi to do what he should have done a long time ago. Cut ties with his boss, Avi Lewis and the federal NDP. Officially, formally, in writing today. A clean break, right down to the name of their party. Not doing so tells Albertans all they need to know about where the NDP stands on Alberta energy… which is “leave it in the ground”.

Last night, the provincial fuel tax pause went into effect. As you can see, retailers have started to decrease fuel prices by 13 cents at the pump. Well done 👍

We will not tolerate illegal dumping in Alberta. Last year Calgary alone got about 30,000 complaints about illegal dumping. Piles left on roadsides, on farmland, on private property. Illegal dumping is not a victimless crime. Somebody always pays to clean it up and it is almost never the person who did it. The people stuck with the bill are the landowners, the municipalities and the taxpayers. This fall we are bringing in the toughest penalties in the country. Fines up to $100,000 for individuals and up to $1 million for corporations, plus jail time of up to six months. Albertans take pride in their communities. Our laws should back that up, and our cities deserve better than this.

It was great to join my colleagues at the @ABmunis Government Bear Pit Session in Edmonton. I highlighted the work we’ve done with municipalities to develop provincial standards around personal mobility devices, like E-scooters, to help keep our communities safe for everyone.
