Measured, rational takes on this website will not be tolerated.
Not an ideal start to the season. Schedule becomes cake after next week, but you’d love to get some of these wins against good teams early. Honestly to my eyes, it’s an execution thing. New stuff on offense and players still getting familiar.

Can’t say that I had losing to the Thunder and then losing to the Rockets because of free-throw shooting (al-la the Finals) on my wish list for how the Spurs should open the season. I’m sure they’ll play better, but what a way to set the tone.

I may have spoken to soon
Was just thinking this. It’s wild how he hasn’t looked the same since the Western Conference Finals.

Kornet has fallen off quite a bit compared to his first year in SA. It’s a rough watch at times.

You mean the Kobe/Shaq Lakers that Duncan had to beat in ‘03? The team going for 4 straight titles?
Replying to @DevonBirdsong
He had to play prime Shaq and Kobe (multiple rigged games) it’s that simple

Heard that one before, but Giannis won on his 6th try, and Garnett had already been to the postseason 7 times prior to 2004

The look Kevin Garnett stans give you when you ask them why Duncan and Dirk were able to carry teams like the ‘03 Spurs and ‘11 Mavs to titles, but peak KG couldn’t do the same with a Minnesota team that finished 1st in the West

Did you just liken Kevin Garnett to Wilt?? I swear, if it weren’t for Kobe stans, KG stans would be the outright kings of NBA Twitter delusional takes.
This is similar to the Bill Russell vs Wilt Chamberlain conversation. Your team winning does not make you the better player. Clearly they were at least evenly matched, if not KG having the edge, but it was not TD vs KG, it was Spurs vs Wolves

I’m glad the NBA is celebrating the ABA’s. But it’s BS to recognize our league while many former ABA players struggle and their stats remain excluded from NBA records! Honor the players. Honor the history. Honor the numbers. Honor the Legacy! NBA, do the right thing!!

Pretty sure Timmy's peak was objectively 2003, actually. You know, the year he became the 9th player to ever win MVP and Finals MVP in the same season and got robbed of a Finals clinching quadruple-double. It's routinely ranked by analytics and sportswriters as one of the best carry jobs of all time. But sure, KG peaked harder.
Duncan’s peak was 01-02 and it was weaker than KG’s peak in 03-04 by any measure. I don’t care about longevity, I care about how good a player was at their best. Duncan was an incredible player but people are putting him like #6 all time routinely and that’s too high.

Nothing about the Spurs’ organization is authentic. All of their top picks were gifted to them by the league. They copied the post game drum celebration from the Vikings. The in-game “soccer” chants are forced and corny as fuck. Just a collection of the corniest people.

Not to mention the Spurs were also the slowest team in the league at the time too lol people usually underrate Duncan on offense
I'd argue the opposite is true, since Duncan's offensive peak came during the NBA's Deadball era. If you consider that he peaked during the lowest-scoring and slowest-paced era of post-shot clock pro basketball, I think it shows how underrated the totality of his game was/is.

Those of us who were sentient human beings in the early 2000s remember Duncan was an unstoppable post scorer. I swear, he shot 100%.

This is much too extreme a critique but Duncan is tremendously overrated, especially on offense. It is simply true that he was never a world class scorer - for a 7 foot tall player with conservative shot selection and low scoring load his production is simply average

Deep dive into last night's box, the Spurs starters outscored the Thunder starters by 10 points in the 9 minutes head to head. Game was decided in the first 9 minutes and 10 seconds of the 2nd quarter when OKC went on a 25-5 run & the Spurs went 1-17 from the field.
