I've seen a lot of misinformation and confusion about Canada's migrant labour policies since Monday's vote in Alberta. At the risk of seeming opportunistic, I encourage anyone wanting to understand more about these policies to read Precarious: The Lives of Migrant Workers.

Just heard a story on the radio about an eight year-old who’s never been to school. The child’s parents are Palestinian and because she is in Alberta they need a work permit before she can go to school. They can’t apply before they come here. What are we doing?? 💔

Israeli "democracy":
- 500,000 West Bank settlers can vote, but not the 3M Palestinians under occupation
- 230,000 Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem can vote, but not the 350,000 Palestinians under their rule
- The fewer than 2M Palestinians left in occupied Gaza cannot vote
A thousand times this. Thanks @maxfawcett.
"We can, and should, ignore their special pleading, their endless search for victimhood and grievance, and go on with the business of living our lives and participating in our democracy."

In her interview on West of Centre, Premier Smith said that her supporters are “concerned about young children being transgendered behind their parents’ backs.”
What the fuck does “being transgendered” mean? How can she lie with such ease? How is this hate-monger our Premier?

This is like watching a flock of seagulls fight over a used bandaid in a Walmart parking lot.

I saw this today from Caitlyn, kind of shows you how the wordings of those 9 questions were framed in one way…
The separatists trying to frame their 24% as a victory are the same guys whose mommies told them the Fs on their report cards stood for “Fantastic.”

We should have just given the separatists $130m to leave.
The honey farmer in this clip has legitimate worries that if the immigration referendum questions pass he’ll face a crippling labour shortage. At the same time, he has an Alberta independence sign at the entry to his farm. Dude. cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.7…

On top of #genocide, Arboricide:
Out of roughly 2 million olive trees in Gaza before October 2023, only 150,000 trees remain standing. This is a loss of roughly 85% to 90% of the region's olive groves.
Ecocide is the deliberate, widespread destruction of natural ecosystems necessary to sustain human life. Many experts would agree that Israel's systematic destruction of Palestinian farmlands, aquifers, and trees would qualify as ecocide.
Under international humanitarian law including the Geneva Conventions, any objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population like agricultural areas are granted special protections during conflict.
Olive oil and table olives are crucial to Gaza's local agricultural economy, but in Palestinian culture, olive trees are much more than just a commodity. They are symbols of continuity, resilience, and attachment to the soil. Many groves are hundreds of years old and passed down through generations.
Unlike annual crops like tomatoes or cucumbers that can be replanted and harvested in a single season, mature olive trees represent decades of invested capital. Losing them wipes out a reliable source of income for thousands of families, leaving them dependent on foreign aid.

I'm tired of the "Alberta separatists are stupid" trope. They're not dumb. They just think the rest of us are.
Here's a list of things they think Albertans are gullible enough to believe. 🧵
Now do orphan wells.
We will not tolerate illegal dumping in Alberta.
Last year Calgary alone got about 30,000 complaints about illegal dumping. Piles left on roadsides, on farmland, on private property. Illegal dumping is not a victimless crime. Somebody always pays to clean it up and it is almost never the person who did it. The people stuck with the bill are the landowners, the municipalities and the taxpayers.
This fall we are bringing in the toughest penalties in the country. Fines up to $100,000 for individuals and up to $1 million for corporations, plus jail time of up to six months.
Albertans take pride in their communities. Our laws should back that up, and our cities deserve better than this.

This is hugely problematic.
A Liberal MP was removed by PM Carney’s office from his position as parliamentary secretary to the minister of veterans affairs bc he supported an bill that sought to close loopholes that allow Canada to send weapons to Israel:

I woke up to happy news. Precarious made the shortlist for the @dafoebookprize.
My son asked if the prize was named in honour of the actor who played The Green Goblin in the Spider-Man movies. I said yes.

Every Canadian gets a pamphlet in their mail, every 6 months for MAID.
If you don’t fill it out and send it back in time, unqualified volunteers come to your house on snowshoes, tie you down with moosegut cords, and kill you by suffocation with a beaver tail.
True story.
🚨 CANADA: No oncologist yet — but a MAID pamphlet arrived
Kristin Logan: “I hadn’t even seen an oncologist yet before I got that pamphlet.”
“As I’m waiting for even the first call from the oncology team, I get this pamphlet in the mail basically telling me that I can go and kill myself.”
“At that point you realize what a DYSTOPIAN situation it is.”
