the calculator redesign went viral because you've met every one of those screens. best design critique format there is: take the real thing and just don't stop

calling opus 5.5 the first model with taste is generous. better defaults is the honest name. taste is what you do when every default looks fine and you still cut half of it

figma got an earlier llama 70b competitive on design edits by grading taste in parts. alignment, contrast, right component, did it follow the request. subjective was never the same as unmeasurable
You would be shocked if I told you the things we made Llama 3.3 70B do.

anthropic ran a study where claude's leanings were set by secret coin flips, then 50 data experts worked with it. they matched the coin far more than chance and still felt fully independent. human in the loop only works if the human can see the loop

Telling an agent “make it clean” is like telling a chef “make it taste good”. Clean is a result, not an instruction. Give it tokens, references and a list of things you hate

every AI product ships the same screen: chat box in the center, menu on the left, gradient behind it. the first answer is a solved screen. the unsolved one is the second: where the follow up goes and what happens to the directions you didn't take

Best part of the OpenAI math news is they put the proofs on GitHub and asked people to break them. Ship it, let the internet review it. That's how science should feel

Agents write the code. Agents review the code. And I still talk to all of them through a text box. We can do better!!

Chat apps give you one answer in one line. Real thinking branches. So I built Branch: ask once, get three angles on a canvas, follow the ones worth it, merge the good parts. Think in branches, not threads

The Chase Burns extension isn’t official, so no word from the Reds front office or from Burns today on the deal right now.

What causes #poverty? Nothing. It's the original state, the default and starting point. The real question is, What causes #prosperity?

David Friedberg just said the quiet part out loud "I am telling everyone that is listening. Look at the data. There is no job loss with AI. It is an absolute scam to tell the world that AI is taking away jobs."

To the Americans: I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States. And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness: You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence. This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns. Success is equated with exploitation. Ambition is looked upon with contempt. This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom. But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated. This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet. And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America: Thank God for the United States. Thank God for the wisdom of its founders. Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man. Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners. Long may your admirable country dominate the world. Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states. May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning. Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill. Thank God for the USA. Happy 250th. Dr. Jordan B. Peterson

The avg person will try to tell you data centers are “evil” but can’t explain why Here are the facts every PC gamer has known for years:
Water usage has been a hot topic in the AI data center world, but the numbers may surprise you. According to the Manhattan Institute, data centers use 0.2 percent of daily water usage in the U.S. and that number has dramatically decreased in the past few years due to a new method: liquid cooling. By moving to 45°C liquid cooling, AI factories in favorable climates can use dry coolers instead of conventional cooling-tower-based systems, cutting facility cooling water use from roughly 2.6M gallons per MW per year to near zero. Liquid cooling enables AI factories to be both water and energy efficient, while creating opportunities for heat reuse and dispersal to local communities, allowing these factories to become energy grid assets. News: LIV Golf is expected to tell players and staff as early as tomorrow that Saudi’s sovereign wealth fund PIF will be wrapping up investment in LIV at the end of the season, according to people familiar with the matter. PIF Will explore strategic alternatives for LIV, I’m told.

Congratulations, the big historical moment has arrived. Breaking news: the UAE now withdraws from OPEC and OPEC+ effective May 1, 2026. The Islamic regime is benefiting from OPEC and OPEC+, and no one should share a table with this terrorist regime.

this is such a surface level design thought lol
Marc Andreessen just revealed the Elon Musk philosophy that completely broke his brain: "The best product in the world shouldn't even need a logo." We all know Elon is relentless about quality. As Marc puts it: "Do you want the best car in the world or not, right? Like that's Elon's mentality... And it's working very well." But at a recent event, Elon took this mindset to a completely different level. He dropped a perspective so jarring that Marc initially thought it was a joke. Elon’s thesis? "You shouldn't even have to have your name on the product. It's just obvious. Everybody knows." The logic is brutal but simple. If you build the undeniable, undisputed best thing in the world, everybody uses it. And because everybody uses it, you don't need to slap your branding all over it to prove it's yours. Think about that. We spend endless hours agonizing over marketing, tweaking brand colors, and putting our logos on every square inch of what we build. But the ultimate flex isn't a flashy logo. The ultimate flex is building something so undeniably brilliant that its mere existence is the brand.
