All the firewalls in the world won’t fix human vulnerability. 🤷‍♀️
A businesswoman close to Jensen Huang was reportedly passing intel to Beijing. Spies go after people, not firewalls. Executive security at AI and chip companies now has to cover the CEO's inner circle, travel and personal contacts. nytimes.com/2026/10/29/us/po…

A classic chart to counter the wisdom of crowds idea. US Americans are absolutely clueless about how common things are. They think over a quarter of Americans are Native Americans, one in five Americans is transgender, over a quarter of the population are Muslim, one in five households earn over half a million dollars. The right answer to all of these questions is 1%. They build their worldview on totally incorrect assumptions towards reality. Data literacy matters.

I would’ve expected the US to dominate this chart. Still scary how little Europe features here…

The real question is whether the limitation lies in the technology or in the organization’s ability to use it effectively. Custom AI isn’t always the answer. 🧐
Before commissioning bespoke AI, check whether the business has made full use of what already works. The OECD's SME taxonomy separates breadth of AI use from technical complexity. Extending a proven application into another useful workflow and building a customised system are different investment decisions. The first may depend on coordination, training and process adoption. The second also requires a case for technical development, maintenance and ongoing support. For an SME, the starting point should be the commercial constraint. Is useful work failing to spread, or does the business need a capability that existing tools cannot provide? The underlying survey is non-representative. Use the framework to structure the decision, rather than rank all SMEs or assume that greater complexity means better business performance. @RLDI_Lamy @sulefati7 @ILoveBooks786 @Corix_JC @FrRonconii @COSTESLionelEr @Nicochan33 @faryus88 @ramonvidall @ozsilverfox @jameslhbartlett @dinisguarda @ricardo_ik_ahau @timo_vi @violetainsights @DioOmega @TravlTechDog @66Iot @PatrickCFOD @OperatingByJohn @TysonLester @BCAgroup Source: OECD, “Empowering SMEs in the age of AI: The 2026 OECD D4SME Survey”

Saudi Arabia is loading right now 9 supertankers (that's ~18 million barrels) in the Persian Gulf (Ras Tanura and Juaymah), per @CopernicusEU Sentinel 2 satellite imagery. Riyadh is going all-out to push barrels out.
Saudi Arabia has been exporting crude so far this month at a rate that suggests the kingdom has lifted its oil production toward the 9-10 million b/d range. Using both the Persian Gulf and (more importantly) the Red Sea, Riyadh has boosted crude exports during the first 22 days of October to >7 million b/d, reaching pre-war levels (see @Vortexa chart below). Adding clean and dirty refined product, the export flow Oct 1-22 reaches ~8.5m b/d, slightly below pre-war levels of >9m b/d. The crude export surge -- and the production boost -- could be part of a "use-while-you-can" strategy aimed at pumping ahead of the potential restart of the war post US midterms (or before the Houthis of Yemen damage another key oil installation -- several near misses already in recent days, including an attack that killed two contractors near a major oilfield). Note: using Oct 1-2 as typically it takes at least five days for dark transits across the SoH to become clear.

This is eye-opening. Europe’s share of global tech R&D has collapsed from 23% in 2005 to just 8% today, while the US has climbed to 62% and China has risen from near zero to 15%. South Korea now outspends Germany, France, the UK, and Italy combined in tech R&D. Yep, you read that right. This is the predictable result of policy choices that systematically favor control and redistribution over growth. Layered regulation, data rules, AI restrictions, labor rigidities, and precautionary frameworks, raises the cost and slows the pace of turning ideas into products, forcing companies to spend scarce resources on compliance rather than experimentation. High taxation and expansive redistributive systems extract capital that would otherwise fund private R&D and risk-taking, while shrinking the after-tax reward for building something new and scaling it. The broader left-leaning mindset that prioritizes equality of outcome over dynamism treats entrepreneurial success as something to be managed, taxed, or shared rather than unleashed and rewarded. Places that protect the returns to innovation and keep barriers low continue to pull ahead, attracting talent and capital that Europe increasingly loses. Europe’s relative decline is the cumulative outcome of treating dynamism as a problem to be regulated rather than the engine of prosperity. Without a shift toward lighter rules, lower burdens on enterprise, and greater tolerance for unequal outcomes from unequal effort, the gap will keep widening, and Europe will become an open-air museum for wealthy Americans and Asians.
