Stephanie Mills made clear she has no interest in a sit-down conversation with Oprah Winfrey during a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s "Club Shay Shay" podcast. The “Home” singer, known for her long career and outspoken defense of Black artists, framed her stance around loyalty to her community and frustration with what she sees as selective criticism. “Let me say this. You could tell I’m very pro-Black. I love my community,” Mills stated. She continued by illustrating her protective instincts: “Now that I’ve met you and I would somebody said something bad about you, I’d be like: ‘No. I met him and he’s family to me now.’” Mills then zeroed in on Oprah’s platform and her comments involving Whitney Houston. “So I just think that because she has such a huge platform… She didn’t say anything about Harvey Weinstein, did she? To my recollection. Okay. So, why would you make fun or say something about Whitney now? Why not say something about Taylor Swift? Or somebody else? Why are they always picking on their own? That’s my problem with her and Gail. You know, and I don’t think we need to sit in the room, I think they understand exactly what they do. But, I know that Oprah’s very safe with what she does. But I’m not going to allow her to talk about Whitney or anybody else, I’m not.”
