The paradox of our Golden Age of science: more research is being published by more scientists than ever, but the result is actually slowing progress! With too much to read & absorb, papers in more crowded fields are citing new work less, and canonizing highly-cited articles more.

I wrote something about quantum batteries for the latest issue of @NaturePhysics. Cool work by @MarkMitchison and colleagues from @QuSysTCD. Check it out!

Precisely ONE month ago Matt Hancock claimed you couldn’t make decisions if you didn’t have data. The Govt had data. He chose to ignore my claim that by the beginning of July we would be at 40,000 cases/day. Today it was 43,000. Just remember how they’ve misled us throughout.

A friend has just shown me this book "Calculus made easy", published in 1914, and I think it's got one of the best prologues I've ever seen. This is *exactly* what textbooks should be doing. And they should all be honest about how terrifying the topic names are too.
