We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) for a research project on the experiences of people with disabilities in accessing housing, including accessible and affordable housing, in Ireland. This project, run in conjunction with @DisabilityFed, will capture the experiences of people with disabilities in finding a home that is accessible and affordable. We will assess various pathways to housing, including social housing, private rental, and home ownership. As part of the project, we will establish a team that includes people with disabilities to shape the objectives, methodologies, and analysis. We will produce a research paper at the end of the project, and we will hold a seminar to discuss the findings.

The State has a payment named for the cost of disability. After 20 years of campaigning, that principle has been won. But €500 a year is less than €10 a week. It covers less than 5% of the lowest estimate of the extra costs disabled people face. #Budget2027

A Cost of Disability payment should recognise the additional costs of disability, not the welfare status of the individual. Welfare increases help people with cost of living. Cost of Disability comes on top of that. 2 different problems and need 2 different responses. #Budget2027
