One of the coolest use of RAPPL by John McCutcheon and @IsraelF96135088 . They RAPPL isolated ribosomes of bacterial endosymbiont from 2 cicadas and solve structures of funky (mosaic) ribosomes.
Great work here and very happy that our method help them solve this long awaited structure.
Today is an emotional day for me. Together with Prof. John McCutcheon lab @ASU we have visualized by cryoEM what looks like a very funky ribosome from an insect endosymbiont.
We believe there are important evolutionary implications.
Here the pre-print:

This is a great collaboration with @CKChenLab, @slavicaPD Lab, and multiple other labs (Dai, He, Larsson and Topisirovic) that uses our RAPPL method of ribosome isolation for ribosome profiling of mouse tissues or human biopsies (glioblastoma and lung samples). It heavily reduces time for isolation of ribosomes and creation of libraries from scarce and not easy to process samples.
Excited to share our work with @DjuranovicLab on bioRxiv, introducing RAPPL-Seq! 🧬

Ever wonder if tRNAs can regulate the identity of a cancer cell?
@HsiehLab @FredHutch postdoc @yeonsookim_phd did and discovered a single tRNA that can control lineage dependency and drug sensitivity in prostate cancer published today @Nature: nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
This is the first of multiple manuscripts that use our patented approach to increase protein production in gene specific way from a wild type allele in happloinsufficiencies using antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs). Great collaboration with @MillerLabNeuro and funded by @CZI. Many more manuscripts and ASOs to come in the near future.
Protein expression is amplified by stabilizing mRNA using gene-specific antisense oligonucleotides biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
Sam Snyder from @DjuranovicLab and Hugh Notman from @slavicaPD lab delivered great scientific talks at CSHL Translational Control and Molecular Parasitology meeting in Woods Hole this month. You'll hear more about peptidyl-tRNA drop-off and functional prion like domains soon.
Starting strong with seminars this school year. Today (Sep 8th) we have Hani Zaher from WashU as the Giuliani RNA Center Seminar guest. Tomorrow (Sep 9th) we have Jody Puglisi from Stanford University as the MCBGP speaker and guest. Come and join us.
Another publication from our collaboration in DARPA project is out today in Nature Communications. This study shows that transgenic schistosomes expressing SARS-Cov2-antibody in guts of mice can prevent viral infection of mice. Thanks to all people that contributed to this study.

Great news this morning, Amir Orian's lab and @DjuranovicLab received BSF funds for collaborative project on post-transcriptional control of cell identity in the next 4 years. Looking forward to this collaboration and joint project between Technion and Brown University.
NOA for @DjuranovicLab from NIGMS for our R35 application on "Mechanisms of Translational control" is here. Great way to celebrate one year of lab being at @BrownUniversity and Giuliani RNA Center. Thanks to NIGMS and reviewers from last (June '25) and this year (June '26) for providing support to our studies. This is continuation of two of our R01 grants that were in place for 10 and 5 years, respectively.
It is a great privilege to be named Mencoff Family RNA Research Professor of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Brown University. I am grateful to Samuel M Mencoff and Mencoff Family, Brown University, Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry and Guiliani RNA Center at Brown for this honor.
Djuranovic lab will soon celebrate their first year at Brown University.
Fresh out of the press today. Great colaboration with @slavicaPD and @Mak_Mitreva labs as well as multiple other ones involved in this project.
