It is often assumed that correlations btwn metabolic rate and behaviour can cause indirect selection. By examining numerous behaviours, our paper by @AmelieCrespel shows when this "phenotypic gambit" is incorrect & why genetic correlations are needed: royalsocietypublishing.org/d…

I'm THRILLED that this paper is out in @ICB_journal! 🧵 We found that lungfish air breathing & suction feeding use remarkably similar kinematics & muscle shortening! This suggests that evolving to breathe air didn't need large changes to anatomy/mechanics doi.org/10.1093/icb/icac109

8 years since we first realised the data in many papers were non-biological. It’s a relief that the investigation concluded scientific misconduct and data fabrication in several papers. science.org/content/article/…

Then, as I reported last year, the whistleblowers went a step further and accused Dixson and Munday of research misconduct. Several former lab members of Dixson joined them. bit.ly/3QvmPtc

This is absolutely a big problem, and one that drives me to spend countless hours hitting my head against the wall trying to expose misconduct. Money and resources wasted, ECR careers destroyed chasing fictitious results, etc. I hope you're in a good place now.

The signs have been there since at least 2014 (peerj.com/preprints/628.…). To people in the field it’s surely more shocking it took so long. How many papers are data available for? What happens to papers that she led that used the same technique but for which there’s no data?

Very pertinent thread in relation to the #flumegate case and the broader issues of misconduct, whistleblowing, data accessibility, etc. The system really is broken and we need to step up and do something about it so we stop wasting money and careers.

We have had a great deal of interesting and inspiring talks on a tight schedule. A few hiccups but everything largely went well! A brief recap on our last keynote, given by @Josefin_Sundin. She talked about the importance of research integrity, transparency, and replication.
How not to handle scientific misconduct cases: - Pruitt given settlement from @McMasterU instead of being fired. - Only papers between 2011-2015 were included in the investigation. - The investigation may never be released to the public. - Zero transparency. #PruittGate
Behavioral ecologist Jonathan Pruitt has resigned from their prestigious position at McMaster University after being under fire for more than 2 years for data irregularities or possible fabrication in dozens of publications. fcld.ly/yqftfbj
