The @DeptofWar worked collaboratively with the 30 universities to mitigate foreign relationships of concern on the Section 1286 List, protecting critical research that supports the American warfighter. The Department will continue working with Congress and academia to ensure taxpayer funded research is not exploited by foreign entities against the United States.

The @DeptofWar successfully received mitigation results from its mandated research security audits of 30 universities. Each university has now fully mitigated its identified relationships with foreign entities of concern listed on the most recent NDAA Section 1286 list, resulting in more than 80 termination-related actions. Safeguarding taxpayer-funded research from intellectual property theft and unauthorized technology transfer is a national security imperative. The Department of War has ZERO TOLERANCE for academic collaborations that may expose critical research to adversarial exploitation. The Department will continue to work with Congress to update the NDAA Section 1286 list and assess universities that retain problematic relationships with entities on the list.
