We humans are going to have to decide whether jobs exist simply to accomplish tasks or if employment as a social technology is worth preserving to maintain social order. Because companies are making decisions with heavy social consequences based on their own economic incentives.
Rumors that chili maker Lao Gan Ma laid off 500+ workers due to AI have gone viral in China.
Beneath Beijing’s positive messaging, many ordinary Chinese people are worried about AI and jobs.
Lao Gan Ma recently touted a new AI-powered chili inspection system that uses high-speed industrial cameras that significantly outperform manual inspection.
A stat about the company using this AI system to reduce human inspectors from 600 to 48 went viral on Chinese social media. The iconic, family-run company pushed back.
But if you look at the data, the company has reduced headcount from 2,912 to 740 in the past few years while earning record revenues.

Almost everyone in their late 20s and 30s is having a quarter-life crisis because the previous generation wrecked the economy, priced us out of adulthood, and now treats us like failures for not owning a house or car that once cost a few years’ wages, not a lifetime of debt.
This is probably why it feels like we went from 0-60 on the official "prep" guidance.
Probably a very sober take on what’s really “up.”
Your window to prepare, even with the basics, is closing.
For those tracking the indicators that an event is increasingly likely, you know that it is now undeniable that something is brewing. It has now reached the point to where national governments are now overtly telling civilians to make preparations, however basic.
As part of my career in the US intelligence community, one of things I supported was Counterintelligence threats to Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP). Something i can say for absolute certain is that once governments signal that their citizens need to prepare, those preparations have already been conducted for national leadership.
Governments plan for two course of action; bug in and bug out. Bug in involves hunkering down where they are. They lock down the facility. No one in and no one out. Bug out involves the relocation to a secure location that is away from potential threats, which includes hungry people. They lock down. No one in. No one out.
It would be wise for you to assess your current situation and decide the appropriate course of action for yourself and family.
What has been happening over the past several years is that the affluent have been making their own preparations for crisis, including efforts to secure survivable locations away from major population centers, storing food, water, and the means to defend those locations.
The most recent loud signals are likely our last real warning. Governments from Eastern Europe to the UK are now telling people to have the basics on hand to weather a bad situation. Notably, this is on the back drop, for those that remember, when "prepping" was aligned with anti-government extremism under the Obama administration. What you will notice over the next several weeks is the expanding time period that governments call for people to prepare. In Europe, its currently between 3 days and a week. However, the US just sent the loudest signal concerning how significant the situation is; military bases must be self-sufficient for 90 days. The gravity of this can't be understated.
The calls for preparedness will escalate in their time frames. 3 days will turn into a week. A week will turn in to a few weeks. A few weeks into a couple months.
What Americans should know is that you will be on your own. FEMA does not have the resources to help people in a time of need during an event at national scale. You local authorities don't either.
For those in major cities, you should know that almost two decades ago now the Asymmetric Warfare Group, in collaboration with the US military, conducted a study on the process that major population centers descend into chaos, anchored on the current "just in time" supply chain. In 3 days, a major city is out of food in the major stores. Looting starts, first whats left on shelves, then people start taking from one another. Suburbia is then the next harvest location. People organize and target food distribution warehouses. Then people head out into the country where people are prepared and things get ugly.
My recommendation for people is to not focus on the "what", the catalyst for crisis. Focus on being prepared and prepare quietly. Those who fail to prepare will target those who they know are. This includes your own family members. You, at some point, will hear, "well if something happens, I'll just come to your house", stated as a joke. But this is not a joke. You have now become someone's backup plan. Don't allow this.
Right now, you need to shift your mental paradigm. Randomize when you go to the store. Avoid dark hours. Slow down how many times Amazon deliveries show up at your house. And start to think about how to feign poverty. Affluence/comfort has a signature that is easy to spot and smell.
You can't prepare forever. Even governments don't do that. What you need to do is prepare to weather the storm. As the saying in the military goes, "KISS"; Keep It Simple, Stupid. Water, rice, protein, canned foods. Then think basic medicines for colds, flu, and infections. Then think protection and communications. You don't need thousands of dollars, you just need to be smart.
I've recommended this before, but I will say it again. Go watch two movies; "The Day After" and "Threads". This is not to scare you. This is so you can notice the indicators leading up to crisis. They are quiet at first. Governments say everything is fine. Then they say have basic preparations. Then they say have more because help wont be coming immediately. Most people will brush it off and just say it will pass. We are now at the part of both movies where governments are telling people to prepare and some degree of panic is setting in. This will get worse.
You must identify your phase line for action. Assuming, in any way, that crisis will hit and the government will show up to rescue you is a mistake. Turn that fear you are feeling into focused action.
For those that are prepared, keep preparing and be quiet. For those that are unprepared, start now and be quiet.
For everyone, hang in there. Its going to get rough. 🥃

What is Solzhenitsyn's choice? It is a personal decision to either go unresistingly when arrested by a tyrannical government or violently resist, probably at the risk of your life. In other words, do you love freedom so much that you are willing to die rather than surrender it?
The chapter that the quote comes from explains that people did not resist, detailing their psychology behind compliance. The initial reaction was one of disbelief. “Me? What for?...It’s a mistake! They’ll set things right!” Emotions on arrest were mainly were confusion, fear, and denial assuming there had been some mistake or failed to grasp the gravity of the situation. Others were asked to simply turn themselves in and many obediently did so.
Having the benefit of hindsight, the reader can’t understand why compliance was so widespread. This behavior is not limited to Soviet dissidents. Countless criminals have condemned themselves because they thought they could talk their way out of trouble. The innocent or those undeserving of harsh punishments often shoot themselves in the foot by assuming they can just “clear things up” by talking. The stupid and naïve having faith in the system is not a new phenomenon.
Compounding this is the sincere belief by the arrestee that they have done nothing wrong.
"You still believe that the Organs are humanly logical institutions: they will set things straight and let you out. Why, then, should you run away? And how can you resist right then? After all, you'll only make your situation worse; you'll make it more difficult for them to sort out the mistake."
In ordinary circumstances, this is typically correct. Shut your mouth and get a good lawyer. Criminals choose to shoot it out with the police and die. That those who do this are almost universally scumbags who are guilty, we don’t see this as a viable response to the criminal justice system.
Yet for those who are of marginal guilt, perhaps by the State’s interpretation and selective enforcement, trusting that the system will be faithful is increasingly proving not to the be case. In high-profile cases involving leftist prosecutors , arguably innocent citizens were prosecuted on the basis of outrage, not the law. Even those who have been vindicated did not receive fully fair trials.
Lawlessness is beginning to prevail in the United States. While we are not in a widespread without-the-rule-of-law (WROL) situation, we are in the starting phases of the gray zone that is anarcho-tyranny. Anarcho-tyranny is where the state has the power and desire to persecute dissidents but does not equally enforce the law. “Justice for me, but not for thee.”
If you will be politically prosecuted—persecuted that is—and certainly convicted, why would you subject yourself to a process that is so prejudiced against you it would take a miracle to succeed?
A time will come when gambling on the chance that the trial will be fair, the jury unbiased, or that the appeals process will work out is non-viable.
What I am asking is that if the conditions are such that good men, who have been wickedly accused in order to make an example out of, stand little to no chance of being exonerated, or if they do, they do it at the cost of being emotionally, reputationally, and financially broken, why would they willing submit to the process?
But when to act and what to do becomes the dilemma when the average dissident no longer trusts the system. “At what exact point, then, should one resist?” Solzhenitsyn asked. It is a two-part question. The first is more of a political one and speaks to self-awareness of both the individual and political bands as a whole.
The debate rages endlessly online on the right. Conservatives insist that the high ground must always be taken, even if that means losing battles to the left. The left has already begun to resist, but they and their cronies hold the reigns of power, so they can engage in the notorious acts of rioting, vandalism, terrorism, and intimidation we have seen. The right can’t have a rally without being attacked, infiltrated, or subject to partisan in-fight playing a game of “who’s the fed?”
Even so, as much as men might chafe under “absolute Despotism,” they do not act. Self-preservation is a powerful instinct so it is natural to put aside these uncomfortable thoughts and make excuses. “Every man always has handy a dozen glib little reasons why he is right not to sacrifice himself.”
Objectively, there are good reasons not to become a one-man revolutionary but individually, it is dishonest to the self to make up lies rather than admit you are too scared to resist. On the contrary, it is foolish to look for excuses to engage in violence.
To the second half of the question of “when,” Solzhenitsyn asks about the point where resistance should begin: "When one's belt is taken away? When one is ordered to face into a corner? When one crosses the threshold of one's home?" There are no clear markers or indicators for the last chance to take action.
Usually resistance to arrest has been someone acting impulsively in the moment; that’s usually how criminals act. The dissident citizen probably has never seriously considered that they may be targeted by the State for political persecution, so the thought of what will they do and when never crosses their mind.
Contemplating resistance is like thinking about robbing a bank; good people don’t do it. In any case, resistance is felonious, is murder, or is treasonous.
Criminals engage in high-risk behavior because they think they will never be caught. Guileless dissidents think that It’ll never come to that or It won’t happen to me.
Denial and normalcy bias has so warped the dissident’s perception that they do not see the signs all around them. A crook knows the game and either has decided what he’ll do (I’m not back to prison) or he knows it at an impulsive level.
Solzhenitsyn tells us “A person who is not inwardly prepared for the use of violence against him is always weaker than the person committing the violence.” The dissidents were not mentally prepared for the possibility of being arrested, let alone fighting back!
The NKVD took advantage of this by seizing people in the middle of night when they were tired, confused, and unprepared to resist. There would be no time to think, to summon up courage, or to seek help. The whole thing would be over before the individual fully understood what is happening to them.
By contrast, many criminals have no such debate but start shooting the moment they think they may be apprehended, even if their crime is trivial. A violent criminal doesn’t even have the moral high ground!
Solzhenitsyn’s choice, therefore, is a decision that must be made ahead of time. How will you react when you are arrested for badthink? Will you run? Will you fight? Will you comply? Even understanding your own reluctance to resist ahead of time is better than regretting bewilderment and inaction later. If you do believe that you will resist, it is better to determine your feelings and commitment now. The consequences of resistance will be damn ugly. Decide now, because you will not have a chance to think or plan when the moment comes.

How do you defeat a drone like this? Fool the operator, not the sensor. Don't stand out like a target and don't be spotted. Don't let them begin chasing you in the first place.

I turned my DJI Mavic into a home security drone with REA & Opus 5.5.
this f*cking is insane..
I reverse-engineered my DJI drone with Opus 5.5
no cloud. no GPS on the target. it all runs on the phone. iPhone or Android.
here's the build step by step:
step 1 → plug a spare phone into the Mavic remote and paste the prompt below into Claude Code on Opus 5.5
step 2 → Opus checks your drone against the DJI Mobile SDK v5 list. not on it?
stop there. no firmware hacks
step 3 → it builds a small app on the official DJI SDK: Swift for iPhone, Kotlin for Android
step 4 → sync with the alarm: Home Assistant sees it trigger → push to your phone → one tap "Launch"
step 5 → eyes: a tiny YOLO model on the phone's chip. Core ML on iPhone, LiteRT on Android
step 6 → memory: a Kalman filter. he runs behind a fence → LOCKED → COASTING → re-locks on the same ID
step 7 → hands: Virtual Stick at 10 Hz. box center → yaw, box size → distance, never closer than 8 m
step 8 → at the property line it stops, climbs to 30 m and keeps the camera on him until he's out of sight
step 9 → lands back on the pad. the clip with track, distance and timestamps is already on your phone
the alarm wakes you up. the drone already knows where he went...

Then, read the article below on how to reverse-engineer anything with Opus 5.5.

One nice thing about LIDAR systems is you can seem them coming under NV. Like someone pulling out an iPhone with it's faceID system turned on at an NV shoot.
Manmade horrors beyond comprehension.
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.
