A simple way to look at the ‘what if’ of using a reusable cup for a fraction of the takeaway coffee we get through. Astonishing & for my @StGgas dept alone. No cups, no coffee shop policy?Every decision counts. Cup rental schemes exist. Push the boundaries

We can start culture change at any level in an organisation. However, when senior leaders show the way, and role model positive behaviour, more change is likely to happen, more quickly. The Arbinger Institute has just released a new (free) guide: "The leadership gold standard: A blueprint to culture transformation from the top down". It contains some super tools that anyone can use, not just senior leaders: lnkd.in/eTjt_v4J Via @SmartBrief

An excellent article on saying no. It's both healthy and necessary. We should recognise that yes/no is a spectrum, and the best no leaves the asker feeling like they got a yes. Three techniques for saying no effectively:
1) The "yes no": where we say yes to the need, but no to the ask.
2) The "material no": where we don't actually say no, but say yes with a reasonable materials list.
3) The "priority no": where we turn the request into a leadership conversation about what’s most important.

🔓Reducing staff exposure and the environmental impact of nitrous oxide: a win-win.
"We consider this to be a strong argument in favour of investment that will serve the dual purpose of reducing environmental impact and reducing occupational exposure to healthcare workers."

Delighted about Scotland banning #desflurane. NHS England also committed to decommission by 2024 but why wait? Let’s just get on with it and #ditchthedes today ✅. Proud of @StGgas for taking the leap in 2022. Now to focus on our other big hitters: HVAC and nitrous oxide

Where entonox use is suspended temporarily there will be alternatives provided according to local expertise and availability. Women should ask their midwives or hospital contact about what is available and look on labour pains, com for information @labourpainsOAA

Wow! Only 1% of piped Nitrous Oxide is used for patients. Wales has stopped piped supply. #Sustainability in #surgery. Too much single-use kit. Often could make better choices (including whether an operation is necessary and good patient prep).
