Kevin Klein will take public safety seriously from day one. ✅ A new Public Safety Task Force. Led by former Winnipeg Police Chief Devon Clunis, it will bring police, community leaders, businesses and other partners together to build and deliver a four-year safety strategy. Police will get the resources they need, and when you call for help, someone will answer. ✅ Panic buttons on every bus. Every Winnipeg Transit bus will have a panic button connected directly to police dispatch within two years, so riders and drivers can get help fast. ✅ Increasing police presence. More officers in our neighbourhoods, in our parks and on transit, with stronger action against drug dealing and criminal activity. ✅ Compassion with accountability. Addiction is a health crisis that needs treatment. Kevin will work with the Province to expand the use of Drug Treatment Court, which pairs treatment with accountability when addiction is linked to crime. After four years, Scott Gillingham has done nothing to address the homelessness and addiction crisis in Winnipeg. Parks and back lanes are still not housing, and the numbers have only grown. My Safe Streets, Real Pathways Home plan is different. In the first 30 days, I’ll create a Mayor’s Office of Community Safety and Housing Outcomes with public reporting on results. We’ll also stand up a time-limited, professionally managed community — a safe 24/7 place with on-site supports as a bridge to treatment and permanent housing. Not a permanent tent city.
