Lavrov’s presence in Atlanta is less a “welcome” than the unavoidable cost of keeping the G20 functional while Russia remains a major economy and energy player. Diplomacy with sanctioned officials has continued under multiple administrations precisely because complete isolation has never fully severed Moscow’s leverage—on energy markets, nuclear risks, or the Ukraine file. The real test isn’t the optics of the arrival; it’s whether any of this produces concrete movement toward ending the war rather than simply managing its consequences. Voters can weigh that outcome next week.
Russian war criminal Lavrov just landed in Atlanta, US 🇷🇺🇺🇸 We are now welcoming international terrorists and a war criminals in this country. Americans should remember that when voting, Trump & Co is working with terrorists.

A quiet but powerful reminder that spiritual leadership and responsible citizenship are not at odds. Grateful for the Holy Father’s consistent witness to our duty to participate in democratic life.
Pope Leo XIV has voted in the midterm elections of the United States, expressing his “belief in the right and the duty of citizens to participate in democratic processes.” The Holy See Press Office announced on Friday that Pope Leo XIV, an American citizen, "has exercised his right to vote as a United States citizen, whenever he was eligible to do so." The Press Office confirmed that, “in keeping with this long-standing practice of civic participation, he has submitted his mail-in ballot in Chicago.” “The Holy Father has also confirmed that, during his years of residence in Peru he exercised his right to vote whenever he was eligible to do so,” noted the statement.

Marshall said he was “doing so well in the polls” that Trump had better places to be. Latest numbers show him trailing. Now the rally’s back on. Which version is the real one?
A reminder that Trump snapped at a Reuters reporter yesterday for asking why he was no longer going to Kansas. Meanwhile, Sen. Roger Marshall offered this explanation for why Trump was no longer coming: “I think I’m doing so well in the polls, he’s probably got better places to spend his time.”

As a Mainer, I’m with you. If Troy wins, he’ll be my senator too—and I’ll be watching to make sure he follows through on working for the people, not the usual Washington games. Ready to see the end of the pearl-clutching “concern” era. Maine deserves better.
Democrat @TroyJackson207, moments ago in Maine: "I just feel like I'm one of the people right now that knows that this government is broken and it's time to change it. Because we don't have to settle for the scraps that the billionaires want to give us. We don't have to settle for Donald Trump's corruption, chaos, and crimes. And we don't have to settle for Susan Collins' concern anymore. We can have the government that we deserve and the government that works for us... I don't owe the billionaires a damn thing. I don't owe Donald Trump a damn thing. I'm here to work for the people of Maine."

Hegseth’s “warrior ethos” is cover for a culture that punishes breakdowns instead of fixing the conditions that cause them. Eight suicide attempts in one strike group should have been a leadership crisis, not an excuse to strip a sailor’s future. Impeach him. The next Secretary of Defense should reinstate McKelvey with full benefits and treat mental health as a readiness issue, not a disciplinary one.
BREAKING: Pete Hegseth PUNISHES the poor sailor who jumped off a US Navy ship -- AND his family -- in a heartless show of cruelty and spite! Nicholas McKelvey was just 19 years old when he reached the end of his rope aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. He had spent 255 grueling days at sea, working 12-hour shifts in punishing heat, often without enough food, while his wife struggled to raise their children back home. He had missed the birth of his baby daughter. His mother-in-law was in treatment for cancer. And when he sought help for his deteriorating mental health, he says the Navy directed him to a chaplain instead of a mental health professional. Then, one August morning, McKelvey ran across the flight deck and plunged 67 feet into the Arabian Sea. A helicopter crew rescued him. But instead of treating his desperate act as a mental health emergency, the Navy accused him of FAKING his crisis to escape deployment. And on Thursday, the Navy moved to discharge him under conditions that will cost him his G.I. Bill education benefits – the very benefits he and his wife had been counting on to build a better life for their children. “They'd rather blame the victim,” his wife, Samantha Larry, told The NYT. McKelvey and Larry have been together since middle school. They became parents as teenagers, dropped out of high school and married last year. He joined the Navy in 2024 in hopes of giving his family some sort of stable future. What he found instead was life aboard an aircraft carrier whose deployment stretched to a near-record 322 days as the war with Iran dragged on. Food supplies dwindled. Contact with home became difficult. McKelvey told his wife he wasn't sure he could finish the deployment. “I didn't want to be there anymore,” he told the Times. “If I was going to die because of it, then that's just how it is.” McKelvey was not alone in his existential angst. According to the Navy's own report to Congress, there were EIGHT suicide attempts among sailors in the Lincoln strike group during the deployment. The Navy maintains that McKelvey deliberately jumped overboard to get out of his duties. Its records note that he wore a flotation vest and jumped when the sea was relatively calm. But one officer acknowledged in a report that the deployment had been so difficult it was “unsurprising that we might have a jumper.” Now McKelvey and his wife are preparing to return to Florida with their 3-year-old son and 8-month-old daughter. They're staying with relatives and in temporary rental housing while they figure out how to support their family. “We're going to have to pull out student loans,” Larry said. “It is essentially setting us up for just putting us in debt.” The Navy kept these sailors at sea for nearly 11 months, sent them into a war zone, worked them through punishing conditions and watched their mental health deteriorate. Eight suicide attempts in a single strike group should have set off every alarm in the Pentagon. Even if every day of that deployment was militarily necessary, the sacrifices these sailors made deserve recognition, compassion and care. Instead, when one 19-year-old father finally broke, the Navy accused him of faking it and took away the college benefits he had earned his family's hopes on. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth loves to preach his “warrior ethos,” but what kind of warrior culture treats a sailor's psychological collapse as a disciplinary problem rather than a human emergency? McKelvey gave the Navy everything he had until he had nothing left to give. Now the institution he served is sending him home to his wife and two small children with fewer opportunities than he had when he enlisted. If this is how America repays the sacrifices of its young service members, the Pentagon has a great deal more to worry about than its recruiting numbers.

Candidates and presidents often use strong or personal language on the trail. When does tough criticism cross a line into something that hurts democracy or just turns people off? Give an example of language you’ve seen recently that you think is fair vs. unfair.

NYT - FYI: US intelligence thinks a Chinese businesswoman close to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was spying for Beijing and helping get restricted advanced AI chips into China. Trump was briefed about a year ago and did nothing. Here’s the simple version of what the New York Times reported. - American spy agencies concluded that Alice Huang (also called Huang Le), a Chinese citizen and top executive at a Singapore-based data center company called Megaspeed, was a Chinese intelligence asset. They believed she was funneling information to Beijing. - Surveillance showed she had developed a close relationship with Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO (one of the most important people in AI and someone with real influence on Trump and White House tech policy). - Officials already suspected her/Megaspeed of steering advanced Nvidia AI chips to China in ways that bypassed US export controls. A Commerce Department investigation into this started under Biden after Nvidia equipment was found sitting in boxes at a Malaysian data center. Concerns were shared with Singapore, Malaysia, and Nvidia. - Roughly a year ago, Trump was briefed on the intelligence. He took no action. The reported reason was concern that doing something would hurt Nvidia’s chip sales (which help drive the economy and stock market) and complicate trade talks with China. The administration also did not warn Jensen Huang. Nvidia has denied wrongdoing and said its dealings with Megaspeed were normal for a regional customer. The intelligence is classified and based on anonymous sources briefed on it; this report presents allegations and official conclusions, not a criminal conviction. Nvidia contributed at least $20 million to Trump’s ballroom fund during this period. Bottom line: Spies flagged a possible Chinese agent with access to Nvidia’s CEO and suspected involvement in chip diversion. Trump was told and chose not to act, prioritizing economic and trade considerations over the security concerns.

Ambassador, the tragedy is the war itself—years of grinding attrition, massive Ukrainian losses, and no clear path to total victory. Seeking a negotiated end isn’t “helping Putin”; it’s recognizing that open-ended U.S. support without realistic objectives has already prolonged the suffering. The goal is peace that preserves Ukrainian sovereignty and deters future aggression.
The Kremlin has spent years courting Donald Trump. Now they're seeing the payoff. The United States of America is now helping Putin in his war against Ukraine. I find that tragic.

Voters will judge this exact gap. With midterms days away, the cost of living tops every major poll, Trump’s approval on inflation is at a record low, and Democrats hold a clear generic-ballot lead. The renovations and personal gains only sharpen the contrast people are already feeling at the pump and checkout.
Inflation is up. But Trump says he’s doing fine. And why wouldn’t he be? New jet, new ballroom, new helicopter pad, gold everywhere—and a much bigger fortune than when he took office. So stop complaining about groceries. The important thing is that HE’S comfortable.

Nothing screams “biggest crowds in midterm history by a factor of five” quite like booking the smallest available arenas and still leaving empty seats for the invisible 99% who apparently only exist on Truth Social. Fox News must be in on the conspiracy—they only counted the real ones.
Trump: “We are drawing the BIGGEST CROWDS at Trump Rallies in the history of Midterm Elections, by a factor of five times. There has never been anything like it! My Approval Rating in the Republican Party is now at 99%. Thank you, such an honor!!!”

True, and this one even showed up on a private jet after ignoring a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports. Under investigation for alleged money laundering tied to a biopic about his dad and online betting schemes, yet somehow still cleared for entry. Immigration policy is wild when the “criminals from Latin America” arrive with backpacks and family in tow.
Trump was right about one thing: criminals are entering the U.S. from Latin America.

The NYT report (drawing on texts, internal docs, and interviews with ~12 people, including Peltola’s former campaign manager) describes a months-long “ballot composition project” by her aides and DSCC staff to recruit spoilers—including a namesake Dan Sullivan—specifically to confuse voters and siphon support from the incumbent. She was described as aware of it. Ballot-stacking is a longstanding (and generally legal) tactic both parties have used, and the Alaska Supreme Court already kept the other Sullivan on the ballot because state law doesn’t disqualify candidates based on motive. The governor’s probe simply checks whether anything crossed into illegality; calling it a “non-issue” still downplays the documented effort to mislead voters.
This is exactly why Republicans get away with shit They get one little non issue and they blow it up and then they’re like a dog with a bone Even if true, the GOP has done this before and it’s not illegal So How about we investigate the Epstein files, why the person who supposedly shot at Trump was never heard about again Who voted for Mitch McConnell while he was in his vegetative state? I could go on

Nothing says “national crisis” like a White House staffer getting tagged by a Titleist through a hole in the netting. East Potomac must immediately become a Tom Fazio championship masterpiece—midterms, infrastructure, everything else can wait. Priorities.
Trump says a White House staffer "was, sadly, hit violently in the chest" by a golf ball at East Potomac Golf Course because "the gaping holes in the driving range’s 'protective' netting are highly hazardous."

Whether you like coordinating a months-long operation to plant a decoy “Dan Sullivan” on a ranked-choice ballot to peel votes and sow confusion or not, it’s ironic that its defenders once treated every procedural objection, recount request, or lawsuit as an existential threat to the Republic itself. But of course: if the other side did something bad before, you can ignore the problem now. And saying “let the voters decide” sounds better when you have already changed the choices on the ballot.
Whether you like where Mary Peltola reportedly did in Alaska or not, it’s ironic that one of the guys objecting the most loudly ran as a convicted felon after trying to overturn an election. It’s up to Alaska voters to decide how they feel about it.

Polls show that the cost of living and gas prices are top concerns for many voters right now. If you could only focus on one issue when deciding how to vote (or how you’d vote if you were eligible), what would it be and why? The economy, foreign policy, education, or something else?
